Is deactivating the same as unlocking an iPhone 6?

We recently purchased a new iPhone through Apple and deactivated our old iPhone 6.  The iPhone 6 was purchased through apple and we currently do not have a contract with Verizon.  Is there anything we need to do to "unlock" the phone to resell the phone to a person who may have a different cell phone service provider?

Congrats on your new iPhone, MBren. All Verizon LTE phones are unlocked for use on other carriers. While we can’t guarantee compatibility, you could sell your old phone without worry. Here's some information about our unlocking policy: http://vz.to/2e696KX
