upgrade to iphone 4 or 5!

hi i just want to know if i should get the iPhone 4 for right now or when the new iPhone 5 comes out. i've heard that the new one is coming out in June and then others say that it's getting pushed back to later in the summer so i don't know what to do. i really want the iPhone right now, but if i get the iPhone 4 now, i won't be able to get an upgrade again until 2013 and missing out on an up to date iPhone. my upgrade is not until Sept., but i can use one of my family member's line to upgrade since it's transferrable in the family plan. What do you guys think?

My belief is that the iPhone 5 will not be released to Verizon until early 2012 (it may come to AT&T earlier).  Rumors are that the earthquake in Japan has affected the parts supply for the phone to delay it further.

From all that I have read, I would recommend that you make your purchase now as you will have a great phone now instead of waiting for who knows how long.

Good luck in your decision.

Actually the big thing is more in line of "Do you want to lock in a contract for 2 years with an unlimited data plan?"  Rumor also has it, that with the release of iPhone 5, it'll be 'bye-bye' to unlimited data plans and 'hello' to a tiered billing structure similar to AT&T.  So if you're a heavy data user, it might be worthwhile to just get an iPhone 4 now and at least get two years of not having to worry about going over your data limits and having to pay additional $$ for every gig over the limit.

Why don't you get the iPhone 4 now using your family member's upgrade, and then IF the iPhone 5 comes out this summer, you can use your original upgrade in Sept. to get the iPhone 5, and give the other family member the iPhone 4? If they're all okay with it, that is. Then, if the iPhone 5 doesn't come out, you're all good and have had your iPhone 4 for a while.

I'm with vereyezuhn! Of course, this suggestion only works if you're okay with having two smartphones (and thus, two data packages) come september...

Thanks to the community for your feedback. Adding to what was stated, anyone can sign up for email alerts to be informed when new products and devices become available. When the link is accessed, please look on the lower left hand side of the web page to a red sign up box . Once the box is clicked on, you can enter your email address. This is one of the best ways to be informed when the Iphone 5 would be available as well as any other new and exciting devices.

The link is:

So say that I do get the iPhone 4 now. If I get it now, I can use it. But then when the iPhone 5 comes out later this year with my original upgrade in Sept, will the Verizon ppl let me though since I am using someone else's upgrade from a line in the family plan? I fear that they won't let me or so, but idk. What do u think?

If you have two lines with upgrades available this year, you can use both. But if you use your family member's upgrade, what if s/he needs a new phone in the next two years and doesn't want the iPhone 4?

I would get the iPhone 4 now. You could be waiting a while for 5, and from what I've read, 5 might be the one to skip. You can always upgrade to iP6 later.

This is the biggest issue for me.  I don't even use that much data, I just don't want to deal with a freaking cap.  I mean the ATT 2GB data plan is only $5 cheaper.  Oh boy, what "savings".  I imagine VZW's pricing would be the same.

Once the word comes about no more unlimited, I'll see what phones are available.  Hopefully a better 4G than the T-Bolt will be out.  Ideally I'd like to wait and see what the summer brings from Android and to get some more concrete info about the iPhone 5.  I used to do 1-year contracts (which is also now gone), but I'd do a 2-year to lock in unlimited data, as long as its a good phone.  If they announced the end tommorow, I don't think I'd want any of the current crop of Android.  They are either old or the T-Bolt which appears to have a huge downside in its battery life and size IMO.  Unfortunately we are also running out of options as far as carriers.

The iPhone 4 is an excellent phone, and the iPhone 5 will probably be more incremental in updates from the iPhone 4. It's worth going for it now. You can always get the iPhone 6 in a couple years or use a family's upgrade if possible. I had an iPhone 4 on AT&T and jumped to the iPhone 4 on Verizon as soon as it came out. It's all in all a great phone, and still going to give you plenty of enjoyment during your contract term.
