mailbox full

People that call me get a message that says my mailbox is full but there aren't any messages.  When I dial my voicemail it says that there aren't any messages.  How can I fix this?

It's important that we clear out those imaginary messages, akknitwit. Are you accessing your voicemail through the Phone app on your device or are you dialing *86? If you dial *86 do you still hear that no messages are available?

I dailed *86 and received the message that no new messages are available.

I finally was able to clear the old messages by doing a hard reboot of the

phone.
