I just got my new iPhone 5 and the side volume control buttons did not allow me to turn the volume up loud enough to hear without using ghe speaker phone. After talking with a very nice Verizon tech support guy and explaining my problem, he asked me to take the plastic off of the phone which it comes in from the factory. I thought he was nuts, but to my utter delight and dismay, the PLASTIC covers the tiny speaker, so taking it off is all I had to do.
And in case you are thinking your Otterbox would block the sound, worry no more; I put my otterbox cover back onto my iPhone 5 and I can hear fine since it DOESN'T cover over the tiny speaker like the factory plastic.
