I’ve been putting off getting a new iPhone till I had to. I was told by neighboring town Verizon store employee that a 3g tower was damaged and won’t be fixed. It’s not 2020 yet and I have to drive out of town to receive or place calls. There were 3 other people at store with the same problem. Damaged tower is in Norwood, Mn.

The shutdown may be delayed, but don't expect resources to put dumped into a dying network. It wouldn't make financial sense for Verizon to do so when expanding 5G is the priority.
Your best option is to check your offers and see if you have any discounts on equipment.

Probably the 3G equipment on the tower won’t be repaired, but the LTE equipment was.
For original poster, time to consider getting a newer phone that can make calls over LTE (VoLTE). You would need an iPhone 6 or higher to be compatible with Verizon going forward. I’ve seen used ones going for $100 to $150.

Trebusj, we don't want you to miss out on the service you need. Let's gather some information to help find a resolution. When did you start having trouble with the service in the area? May we please have the nearest intersection where you're having trouble at?

You can have the use ONLY if it is currently active. We have 2 numbers. Needed to switch one for number with a 3G that was formerly used on the other line. Verizon would not do it and my line will be unused until I can purchase the new phone.
