My friend gave me a iPhone 5 which was previously with sprint. Is it possible to use it on the Verizon Network ?

but the Verizon iPhone which comes unlocked can be used with other services. why cant a CDMA phone be used on the verizon network.

It is unlocked for the GSM networks, not CDMA.

But still can not be used on a GSM service in the US. Same for ATT iPhones, unlocked for CDMA, but not for US cell companies

It's not a technical limitation of the phone itself. Verizon Wireless won't allow phones that have outside ESNs to be used on its network.
