Today we got a message that our data useage was at 55% then 75% the 90%, all in like 4 hours. Way to late for that..I called the tech support and talked to two people, they just gave me the run around. One girl told me that we basically or periodically use data even when we use are on wifi. I thought we don't use our date when on wifi. I also read on line that there were issues with the iphone5 and Verizon.
We don't stream movies, just the basic FB, Pandora music and a few games.
My main issue is we are on wifi at home 6pm to when we go to bed. The rep could not explain the issue, saying periodically using data. I said I thought we don't use our data when on wifi, she said you don't. So which is it ? Very frustrated to say the least. Something is not right.

I've read several posts/threads on this forum that sometimes iPhones have the cellular data turn on when it's supposed to be on wi-fi ... maybe an issue about when the phone goes to sleep? You may want to turn off cellular data when it's not needed to be on the safe side.

Did you ever get this resolved? I am considering changing from a droid it iPhone, but this would certainly make me research the data usage. Thanks

I did. I called Verizon again and got a credit. Just keep an eye on the data use. Turn data off when on wifi. But even so, there was a spike in data when I was using wifi. The iphone5 is great. Get it !!

By chance, do you leave your apps running when you aren't using them?
Double click the Home button to see the list of apps running. Scroll/swipe from right to left to see the full list (since it shows 4 at a time). Anything here is On and could be using data, though it's no longer in your active window. To turn off, holding your finger over the center of one of the icons, and it will show a "-" in the upper left corner of each app. This should not log you out. It just turns off the app so it's no longer potentially using data.
Also check your Settings such as Passbook usage or iAds.

We are having the same issue. I don't reccomend the Iphone 5 at this point. We have used 2 years worth of data in our first 2 months (yes you read that right) of having it and are doing nothing different than before. We have spoken to several Verizon reps on the phone and in person with no help from them. The Verizon rep looked at our phone and said she had no idea why it was using 1KB at a time...a lot of times it's in the middle of the night when we're sleeping. We don't have many apps on it, don't use facetime, or panda and everything is turned off.
Very frustrating...we're having to monitor it daily so that we don't go over. Our other phones (Androids) use hardly any data...we'll be exchanging this phone if something doesn't change soon.

I am also wondering if this issue has been resolved with Verizon. I recently purchased the iphone5 and have gotten notification of high data usage. Had a droid prior and never got close to using all of my data. In 4 days of the billing cycle, I am currently at 50%?????? Not able to explain it??? I plan on calling verizon!
Hoping this issue is resolved!
