I can clarify mr_west86! No, the iPhone 5 should not use more data usage solely based on the make and model. Usage depends on how the individual uses the device. Please check your email outboxed to ensure an email isn't stuck and attempting to send over and over. Have you identified any trends while analyzing your online data usage? Have you backed up your device and completed a reset here http://vz.to/17aDIPT ? Please share so I may further assist accordingly. Thank you.

I've don't everything you have mentioned, I've done everything...I can't even access my email when over cellular data? I cut that off to only be able to access it over wifi. I have not noticed any trends when analyzing my data usage, data is just accumulating more and more every time I cut my cellular data on when I'm not on wifi ( I cut my cellular data off when I'm using wifi). And yes I've backed up my phone and reset everything on my phone...it's still using up more than half of the data my wife is using... I do not think the issues will ever get resolved because everything you guys have said to do I've done and nothing has changed.. So if it's not the iPhone, it has to be Verizon... Which sucks because I like Verizon's network...so now I do not know what to do...

On 11/8 I got a 5c on a 2G plan that I share with my wifes older 4s.  We were constantly together this Vets day weekend, under my cousins wifi umbrella ~85% of the time.  Yet her phone has only used A FRACTION of my total 2G.  Yes I checked my usage details and verified my 5c had been using data all hours through the nights.  Despite being under my cousins wifi, and my prioritizing wifi over cellular.... or so I had thought.

Last night I fell asleep watching youtube through a google www browser under my own wifi coverage.. and sure enough cell data usage ran rampant.

Today around 12:30PM I turned off all "cellular data" in the settings menu.  We'll see if that works.  The only time I even really need cell data is when I travel and use the GPS... being that I am under a wifi 99% of the time Mon-Fri.

Its now 1:55 PM and my rampant data usage has stopped, with the last bit logged in at 12:15 PM.

I will post back my findings later over the next couple days  So far, from what I can tell... iOS apps continue to run in the background gobbling up cell-data, even if I prioritize my wifi, and completely close out the App when I am done with it.

oneluv81, welcome to our wireless family. Let's work this out as we want you to stay with our network. Do you have access to WiFi? If so, connect to WiFi to save your data allowance when using Skype.

First, let's analyze your data usage http://bit.ly/1g1CHed and then take a closer look at how your data usage is calculated based on what you're doing on your device: http://vz.to/KBmvR7 If you need more data, you have the option of changing your plan to better fit your needs http://bit.ly/xdDajD

This is absurd. I've been using no more than 1.6 GB per month the past 6 months. This billing cycle, my Twitter app alone has used 1.5 GB. Now I'm a full GB over, despite getting a warning just a few hours ago that I was at my limit usage. I don't know if this is a verizon issue, or an iOS update issue, but I am not paying excess charges for this. How is it even possible to use 1.5 GB in the Twitter app, especially when I'm in WiFi 80% of the time I use my phone. Can someone explain this??

I wish I could explain it but unfortunately I cannot and it seems like verizon customer service can't explain it either...my twitter and Facebook apps are the ones using up most of my data, I've noticed Facebook uses more data than twitter though... It seems everyone with the iPhone 5 and latest ones are experiencing data issues and it either verizon do not know what's going on themselves or they do know but are not fully giving customers the answers they need. It seems like I've been getting the run around every since I've post this, and even before with me going to the Verizon store in person. So once my contract is up I might just switch companies, hopefully the issues get resolved before then because like I said earlier I love Verizon's coverage but that's about it... I've been having issues with my iPhone ever since I've been with Verizon which has been almost a year...I can't take another year of issues...

OK... so after one night with cellular data turned OFF for all my apps my data usage has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY.  I still had 4-5 blips on the radar last night (11/15), but 2 were "zero" kb in size.  I am not sure exactly what these 4-5 are, maybe cell tower pings... who knows.  And thats the PROBLEM WITH VERIZON really, theres no way to know what apps and phone functions are using cell data.

My wifes 4s DOES NOT RAMPANTLY gobble up data In the background.  And she leaves all her Apps open ALL THE TIME in the background, and she has NEVER turned off her cellular data use for any of her apps.

As a first time smart phone user, this appears to be the cash cow for the App developers and Verizon.... FREE APPs!!!... that gobble up data use, and force contract overages to unsuspecting customers.  I wonder how many Verizon customers have upgraded their contracts ($$$) because of this.

But one things seems certain, turning OFF cellular data seems to have helped tremendously.  I will post back any follow up results as I acquire them.

Here a copy-paste of my data usage the past couple days on my 5c.  Most concerning are the Apps that are gobbling up data in the 1-8AM hours.  As I am COMPLETELY under wifi coverage during these times... oh I am also sound asleep!!

A good percentage of my cell data usage seems to come from watching youtube vids through the Chrome www browser.  I now have 5 more data points since the results I posted above.

Going to try using the safari browser instead for youtube vids.
