Data Usage while connected to Wifi?

I have an  iPhone 5s.

I have a Verizon app, which shows you data usage in real time.

I was connected to wifi, then checked the data usage: 2.836 G

then, I checked some you tube videos for approximately 5 minutes... checked the Verizon app again... it was 2.866G..

Another test: this time I turned the cell data off. So, LTE was off.

I did the same thing... the Verizon app for data usage was now showing 2.898 G...

Therefore, it doesn't matter if you are connected to wifi or if you turn off the LTE data on settings... your data package will be charged anyways. I don't know if the rate of charges are lower, but one thing for sure... it charges you.
