my son's 4s does not show this data usage; but this began after Christmas Day; when i gave my daughter her new 5C (and activated it on christmas morning)  we have these data usage fees now.

it is significant; the data totals neary 1GB from Dec25-Jan7

Verizon MUST know what this is; and how users can prevent it since so many customers are experiencing the same issue.

all these charges occur when my daughters phone is at home connected to WIFI

My Wife's iPhone5 also has the same mysterious interval charges.

the solution cannot be to turn off DATA.  there must be a culprit that you KNOW you can tell consumers what it is.

does ANYONE know what specific app or services are generating these regular interval charges so they can be SHUT DOWN?????

I don't doubt there is an issue with Verizon's metrics.   Are your third column values MB?

I'm currently trying to get resolution to correct an overage where they reported one of my 4G LTE modems used 5.5GB within a two minute window.  Their so-called 'techs' repeatedly say it's correct and close the ticket(s)... leaving me to talk it out with an agreeable but ineffective customer service rep (who hasn't called back in the last week).

Verizon if you're listening my ticket # is (removed) and I'll be posting more on this issue.

Just got off Apple tech support, because system services (go to settings - cellular - then scroll to the bottom) were using cellular data even when I completely turned cellular data off or was connected to Wi-Fi. I do not have any confidence with the tech but basically he\she typed (using chat) that is what the phone does, IE it needs to work.

I have turned off cellular data and reset the phone and that seems to have killed these data stealing services (I did not let it sit long enough to make a full determination)  but once you turn data back on the issue resumes. The funny thing as I told the tech my wife's 4s does not seem to have this problem.

And yes these services ran at strange times...like 3 AM

Sith123, I know it can be frustrating to have data running that you cannot control because you don't know the cause. I've been there. I downloaded an app to get a breakdown of all the applications using data. Here is what I used at the time: http://bit.ly/NpMzqL . In my case there were backups taking place in the middle of the night that I now have disabled. Hope that helps.

Thank You Brian. I know what applications under System Services are using the data but per Apple "it is what it is" as I can not turn them off. They will grab cellular data if I'm connected to Wi-Fi (you would think it would be smart enough to use a Wi-Fi signal) and even if I tell my phone not to use cellular data (as in turning it off.)

My iPhone 5s grabs data multiple times a day but my wife's iPhone 4s  only does this data grab once every other day.

I just was on the phone with a futile supervisor telling him the same thing you have written about. Multiple charges every 6 hours for 10kb for days. also told him phone is not being used overnight and there wer charges every 2 to 3 minutes. He gave me no concrete answers, saying it must be an app, turn off notifications, etc. That's been done and we are over by 2GB on one line, 1 GB in less than a week, and another line about to go over. Both with IPhone 5c. Other 2 lines, with iPhone 4, no problems. After googling problem, reading all posts, it's an obvious abuse by Verizon and they are trying to snowball people into thinking its not  Verizon. I am contacting the NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL tomorrow to alert them to this Verizon scam. They are making a ton of money in overage charges for data that we aren't even using. SHAME ON VERIZON!!!!!!!

There was a link to the FCC on this discussion board. I clicked on it &

reported Verizon regarding my excessive data use charges.I am using the I

Phone 5 and also using Verizons Jetpack to connect to the internet. Good

Luck finding the cause of the excessive data usage.

I have just switched to Verizon and am reporting them as well... I supposedly went from 2 gb usage with another company to all of a sudden 10gb... I'm heated... I'm not paying a 140$ bill... something will be done!

I too am filing a complaint with FCC, my State Legislator, and Attorney General.  I am including Verizon and Apple!  Clearly both Companies know there is a problem, and clearly they are not willing to work with their customers to resolve this issue.  I have been with Verizon for 12 years and have always been happy.  I will switch companies and return my IPhone.  Verizon, taking hard earned money from good loyal customers is a short term business plan....because we will leave!

My daughter upgraded to the IPhone 5S a little over a month ago and a few days later I started receiving data limit warnings.  In two months I have upgraded my data plan from 6gb per month to 16GB's per month!  I have called, analyzed, exchanged the phone, rebooted the phone, turn off all programs and celluar data....and STILL.... I received another warning that she has used 90% of 16GB's and we still have 12 days left in our billing cycle!  We have done all of the suggestions listed here and on the Apple site, as well as followed instructions from phone calls and visits to the store with "Customer Service" reps from both companies, and it is getting worse not better!  All of the time and money we have spent on this is absurd.  Shame on you!
