iphone 4 and do NOT want a data plan

I posted this question on verizon community. Edward was nice enough to

respond (see below). I tried to reply (as the bottom of his email says I

can do) and it bounced. So I clicked on Verizon Community from his link,

and it brings up the discussion but does not let me reply and if I click on

Actions, I get an error. If I click on 'view the full discussion' I get

this:

so ... very frustrating ... I am trying to swap the flip phone on my plan

for an old iphone 4 for my 94 year old mom, but do not want data as she

just needs phone and text. I hope you can help.

That is an excellent question as we want you to have all of the information

need to make the best decision for you. The iPhone 4 is a smart phone and

all smart phones do need to have access to data on our plans. If you are

already on a plan that has a shared amount of data you will be able to

activate that phone without adding any additional data. Now if your plan

doesn’t have any shared data as part of the plan, the line will need its

own data plan. What is the name of the family plan you are currently on?

thanks so much for your response ... we are on the "The Verizon Plan Medium

3GB" plan for $45. We have 4 lines and the other three use data. I see

the unlimited plan for 4 lines is $160 so it would probably be cheaper just

to get data on the line that doesn't use it ....?
