I live in Ramsey NJ and have really enjoyed my iphone for years. I must say something really bad is going on and its not just hurricane Sandy. You have a cell phone for communication, information and overall security. In the last 36 hours I have text messages never being delivered, cell phone calls not ringing and going to voicemail and ultimatly THE WORST is no data service whatsoever!! My 4G verizon friends on my block have no problems whatsoever but all I get is "Data service not available". What is that? Pulling the plug on 3G too soon?

Did you not listen to the weather and other news personnel saying that cell service may not be available for all services? All the carriers might have experienced high call volume or limited capacity on a tower due power outages or other reasons. They could have also reserved more capacity on the tower for voice and text communications. Sometimes even the tower could be so overloaded that only text messages could get through.

It must be about time for someone to suggest a class action suite against Verizon for Sandy. Or maybe we can get out of contract without an ETF because of Sandy. And that $30 upgrade fee did NOTHING to prevent this!!!

You guys read the whole message? Tower serving other folks fine. Now if you
said 3G runs deprioritized to 4g fine. SMS messages should have gone
through. We never had the bad rains or winds thus the tower has no damage.

As you say, they probably did prioritize 4g over 3g. But your whole message lacks impact when it is really "Horrible service on my phone..., other Verizon users fine."

A visual inspection from the road can't guarantee that there isn't damage to the tower, radio units, power supply and a whole host of other possibilities.
