do text and picture messagae use my data plan?

I recently bought an iPhone 4, I have a 2 gig data plan and unlimited text and picture messages. However when I go into the phone settings and check cellular usage and cellular network data after sending a a picture message the sent data goes up. So is this eating away at my data allowance for the month or will it not since I have unlimited text/picture messages?

Hello chris1138

I would be glad to answer your questions about your data plan. Text and picture messages do not take away from your 2 gigabyte data plan. Sending and receiving pictures do use our data portion of the tower. That's why you may see a increase in the cellular network data. This is not charged against your monthly allotment.

Here's a great link to our data calculator: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/explore/?page=data . This will give you an awesome tool to calculate your usage.

You can also check your usage by going to: www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon or by dialing #DATA then press send.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you

Isent the cellular data the data of our data plan. If it shows an increase Isent it against ur 2gig. Maybe it might appear but then they deduct it before the bill comes? I know IMessage does use data.

Yes it does use your data! Finding out the hard way, and it's not right because until I up graded to an iPhone all my text with pictures did Not use data! One more way to get more money! Will be going to no contract when this one is over! And customer service sucks!

No it doesn't use your data when sending MMS

For the person who got the iPhone. If you are using iMessages which isn't SMS or MMS then it does as it doesn't go through the carriers SMS/MMS/IMS protocols.

Sorry for any confusion. iMessages do not debit from the text messaging allowance in your plan. However, if you aren't connected to Wi-Fi, sending iMessages will use the cellular data allowance in your plan. Does this address your data usage concerns?
