my list of reasons

1. no choice in phone size, keyboard I think anyone that chooses one of any touchscreen only phones are ok with this

2. no widgets The only people that miss widgets are those that used Droids or Androids in the 1st place (I would think). For that reason I can understand.

actually i started widgets in winmo 6 Ok, I'll ammend my statement to include winmo, but I'll be honest, I don't know many people that used and actually liked winmo so it's why they tend to be left out of the convo.

3. have to use itunes Is there a specific reason that you're anti-iTunes? Specific personal use reasons and not based on stuff you read or heard? I ask because I have known people that declared a hate for iTunes based off of what they assume and a lot of what they assume is actually incorrect (or they only know part of the truth). Not saying that's you...just curious

last time i used it it put itself in charge of all my music/vids, it acted more like a virus then software

i like copying my stuff manual, but thats me

I vaguely recall you stating this before, but I still can't understand what happened in your case to make iTunes work like that for you. I have been using iTunes for years...actually started using it long before I ever owned a single Apple product (and the only Apple products I have ever owned are iPods and now iPhones) and I have never had an instance where iTunes put itself in charge of all of my music/videos. The only thing I can think of is that you authorized iTunes to be your default media player for various files (knowingly or unknowlingly), but that's simple to fix just by changing your defaults on your computer. If anything has been more like a virus for me than a software I would say Windows Media Player has been. Now if you're talking about iTunes purchases that you made...that's something different and again, the way that worked was a bit different years back than it is now. If you have any old iTunes purchases they show up in iTunes as "protected" versus "purchased" now...those required a little extra work if you wanted to convert them to a different format to use in WMP or something else...(burning to a CD and then re-importing to whatever format you wish), but the notion that it was impossible to do anything with an iTunes purchase was one of the most rampant un-truths spread around by those that hated Apple and iTunes with a passion years ago. At any rate, not trying to sway you to use iTunes...if you don't like it, you don't like it. I was just curious what your reason was...because most people that I have ever heard complain about having to use iTunes usually complain because of things like being forced to by a whole album to get the one song they want because that song was labeled as "album only" (a gripe I have had through the years but iTunes isn't the only that does it) or they complain because they can't burn purchased movies to DVD without some seriously complicated and technically frowned upon techniques. Otherwise, the complaints are usually from people that never actually used iTunes and hates it just because Apple created it lol

4. no sideloading without jailbreaking Less tech inclined people likely don't care so much about sideloading, but if it's important to you then it would def be an issue

5. apple limiting things on purpose to bring a new phone out every year

(the iphone 4 had the global chip, just no antenna and it wasnt activated) It takes more than the chip to make it global on a CDMA network so that's misleading

true, but if they were using the chip, why not make it work

and recall back to the original iphone that had no pic messeging when it first came out. If we were talking about the same issue on AT&T I would completely understand, but what you're talking about is a little different. The iPhone 4 was modified for CDMA use so yes, it had the chip...Apple didn't make a whole new iPhone 4 for VZW...it tweaked the AT&T one, which DID use the chip because it could be used globally...on GSM...which AT&T was. AT&T doesn't use CDMA so the original iPhone 4 did not have a CDMA element to it. Now the pic messaging thing...that's a completely different situation. You can't fairly compare that to the exclusion of the iPhone 4 on CDMA being global (until the 4s was released).

6. the 4s shoulda had lte According to whom?

ummmm iirc it has hspa+, but not lte?  heck some people still think its lte sicne they the name has a 4 in it Many people assumed the 4 was 4G because the previous iPhone was 3G and named 3G...but unless you have been under a rock since the 4 first released it's difficult to believe that anyone still thinks the iPhone 4 is a 4G device today. Now, the question was...according to whom...meaning based on what should the iPhone 4 (or 4s) have been LTE? It may be something some people wanted but anyone that follows Apple knows they don't tend to jump into a new technology until it has been around long enough to have really been tested. So, despite some complaining it was no surprise that the 4s wasn't LTE any more than it was a surprise that the 4 wasn't. The belief is that the next "new" iPhone (not hybrid update as the 4s is...pretty much like the 3gs was) may be more likely to have LTE since  it's almost safe to assume that the next "iPhone 5" wouldn't release until sometime next...and at that point once LTE service has actually spread to cover more it may make more since. There are a lot of people today walking around with the latest and greatest 4G LTE devices...and don't even have 4G service in their areas...they got the phones because they were told this was the next big thing and you don't want to be left out...but what's the point of having something you can't actually use...just like those that complain about not having a global iPhone prior to now but have never traveled anywhere that they would actually use that capability. This by no means includes those that truly have a need for the features or live where they actually have 4G access. But there are many customers that don't.

7. no removable/swappable battery I have never had to swap batteries on any device so not that huge of a deal. That's why car chargers and other methods are great

there are places you cannot charge, and spare batteries come in handy

8. no sd card slot There is on the iPhone 4s so unless you're looking to buy an 8gb 4 then this is mute

huh? maybe i want to buy an 8gb and put a 32gb card i already have in a phone

the price manufacturers cahrge to go from 8gb to 16gb or 32 gb is way more then the cost of a card On this one I mistakenly saw sim and not sd card slot so I apologize for that. As far as sd cards go...I'll admit that when I had devices that used sd cards I barely used those devices in a way that required much space. I think the largest sd card I ever used was maybe 2GB in my last BB...no, it came with a 2 GB card and I got a 4GB card as part of a bundle. I actually used that card in a camera instead since I didn't store music on my BB (I may have had 5 full length songs on there) and 2 GB was nowhere near full even with the large amount of pictures, some ringtones, and a few short length videos. So at that time and on those devices I didn't see the point behind having the largest sd card possible since the more stuff you stored usually meant the slower your device was (at least with the BB's I used over the years). Of course, that's a different story with devices like the iPhone so in that sense I could see wanting to be able to expand if you really wanted to, but something I learned through the years of having several iPods the reality really becomes that having infinite storage space means that you just happen to have enough room to carry around a lot of things you wil not likely ever get a chance to use. Don't get me wrong...I have an iPod Touch 64 GB that is full of stuff but still doesn't cover my library and I have an iPod Classic that is full (I think it's 180 GB...or maybe less...I can't recall) and it doesn't have everything on it but when I am honest with myself I realize that I don't know what all is really on it and even if I had it play all of the music on it from beginning to end I would have several weeks of music to listen to without once hearing a song play twice...movies and videos are different but the amount of movies I have on there I couldn't watch in one sitting or even over several days. It's a great convenience, but it's really not as much of an inconvenience as some people make it out to be to actually manage your space and switch out some things if you must. This doesn't mean that I would be happy with an 8GB iPhone...I wasn't thrilled with my 8 GB iPod Nano and it didn't have video capability. But for me, an SD card slot would just invite me to carry around even more stuff just because I can. Plus, although I do use my iPhone for far more than I ever did with any other device I still consider it a phone above everything else. So, I am more picky about what I add to it (movies, music, ect)...and when it comes to full fledge entertainment I rely on my other devices. My iPhone "extras" are meant as a time killer when I am out somewhere and find myself with some down time. All of that is what works for me. Point being I can understand the desire and wouldn't knock it if Apple ever decided to allow sd slots, but I really don't miss it.

im sure im forgetting a few things :smileyhappy:

For me personally, Its not that I dont like iPhones rather I just prefer Andriod.

Reasons:

Screen Size: I went from an droid 1 to an incredible to a thunderbolt to a droid charge and I could never go back to a 3 inch screen.

Charging ports: Micro USB has become the standard for almost all devices EXCEPT the iPhone. I enjoy being able to go to almost any friends house and asking if they have a micro usb charger and the chances of them having one I can use will be greater than an iPhone. ALTHOUGH the battery life on a iPhone is better so that may make this point null for some.

Pricing: I have no problem paying 299.99 for my 4g droid charge but I do have a problem with apple charging 100.00 for 16 gb of memory when I can go on amazon and get a 16 gb card for 10.00-15.00 dollars.

Apps: I appreciate the free apps on Andriod. I read somewhere that 80% of the apps are free. Alot of people talk about quality but Ive found that most of the major apps (banking, top games, entertainment, etc) are very similar.

iTunes/Downloading: I hate using iTunes. Honestly, I download most of my music from blogs and mixtape sites. Lots of underground music and I enjoy being able to download directly to my phone. I also enjoy the ease of drag and drop. If I vist a friend and he has a music collection that I like, I simply plug my standard usb port into his computer and drag and drop. Same thing for pictures, personal files, etc. With itunes, the only experience I have with it is when my girlfriend wants me to download her an album. Its not fun for me.

Flash: I visit tons of sites that use flash and this isnt available on the iPhone.

Google Navigation: I love it. What more else is there to say.

Updates: Although updates thru andriod are slow and spread out, with the iphone the itunes update process is very time consuming. Typical update on an andriod is about 10-15 minutes. I updated my girlfriends iphone to ios5 and it took two hours. To itunes credit though I heard that with the new software the next upgrade will be over the air. But I havent seen that yet.

Now there are some things that I think the iPhone knocks out the park. I love their youtube app, I like their keyboard, I like their photo editing software and I like that fact that my girlfriends phone seems to never crash/freeze where as my Andriod does so atleast 1-2 times a month. However those are trade offs Im willing to accept for the benefits I listed above.

P.S.

I have to admitt that siri does have me a little jealous but I'm sure google will answer that soon enough.

I admit I don't have any experience with the Android Market, but Apple's App store also has a vast number of free apps. And like you mentioned, most of the major apps (like banking as you mentioned, many top games, etc) are free. I think that the argument about Apple's app store versus Android's Market is developer freedom since Apple requires that apps get approved before they can be offered in the app store.

As far as updates, yes with iOS 5 the ability to update OTA exists. I used it when updating to the latest update to iOS 5 and had absolutely no issues. Also, that update was far quicker than past updates. The amount of time iOS updates used to take varied for people, but if you had a lot of data on your device you were guaranteed to take longer than someone that had less. I think the OTA process might be quicker because it doesn't require the process of re-adding your data to your device from the backup created right before the new iOS update is installed.

Android fanboy = cares about control over everything of his phone

Apple user = doesn't care about control as long as it works.

It's an oversimplification, but it's mostly true.

Non-technically speaking, the reason I "didn't like" iphones was always the fact that 99% of the people that have them are arrogant, obnoxious "knuckleheads". It's well known that brainwashed and cultish are valid descriptions of that crowd.

Now, it's becoming clear that they are arrogant and obnoxious because their phones "just work" and they know it.

The technical arguments have been debated to the point that it's boring.

A common statement made in this forum is that mainly Android owners with issues (1-2% is a number that is thrown around) ever post here and that "most" Android owners are happy with their phones.

I suggest that 95% of phone owners don't know this forum exists and/or never use it.

How can we get a read on Android phones compared to iphones when it comes to customer satisfaction? Word of mouth.

In the past year, I know of at least a dozen people that had Android phones (various models, various carriers) that simply got fed up with the resets, reboots, bugs, glitches and purchased iphones.

NOW, at least I know some people that have iphones that aren't arrogant and obnoxious. Humbled, contrite, even embarrassed over all the arguments they got into defending Android.....maybe.

Maybe ICS will save the day, but after my experiences with my Droid X and the unmitigated flops that were the Thunderbolt and Bionic, something needs to change by my next upgrade, or I could also become a "cult member".

Defend Android all you want. Hate Apple. People just want a phone that works.

That's amusing to me...not because I'm an iPhone user or because I agree/disagree. I just think it's amusing to define a group of people (and place a percentage on it and call it a fact) based on the device they use...and this goes for any device/user combo. True or not...it's still a pretty amusing and silly "fact" that is anything but...

Now, it's becoming clear that they are arrogant and obnoxious because their phones "just work" and they know it.

A common statement made in this forum is that mainly Android owners with issues (1-2% is a number that is thrown around) ever post here and that "most" Android owners are happy with their phones. I think this remains true no matter what device...in general, most people don't seek out forums unless they run into an issue and need help. Some stick around because they like to help (or annoy) others. That's why reading forums to determine if a phone has widespread issues is a very inaccurate way to determine things. Forum users represent a very small percentage of actual users...and even some of the people that post in forums aren't actually users of the device...some create multiple accounts to post on a topic more than once...it gets messy and virtually impossible to get accurate percentages.

I suggest that 95% of phone owners don't know this forum exists and/or never use it.

In the past year, I know of at least a dozen people that had Android phones (various models, various carriers) that simply got fed up with the resets, reboots, bugs, glitches and purchased iphones. I know a few people that felt the same way...and a few that switched to Android from iPhone and are happier. But most of the people I know that absolutely hated their devices and switched to either the iPhone or an Android device were actually BlackBerry users (even before the most recent BB outage issue).
NOW, at least I know some people that have iphones that aren't arrogant and obnoxious. Humbled, contrite, even embarrassed over all the arguments they got into defending Android.....maybe. I was talking to someone about this yesterday...and it occurred to me that the only time I ever encounter "arguments" over iPhone vs Android (or really see them) is on forums like this one. Made me wonder if there really are people walking around in their everyday lives really debating others about whose device is better.

Maybe ICS will save the day, but after my experiences with my Droid X and the unmitigated flops that were the Thunderbolt and Bionic, something needs to change by my next upgrade, or I could also become a "cult member". Random curious question, but when is one considered a "cult member" of any device? I had a couple of BB's, a couple of LG devices...did that make me a cult of those brands at the time? Am I an Apple cult member because I have used iPods for several years (this is my first iPhone so I assume I can't qualify because of that...unless the fact that I own an iPhone and iPods counts lol). Completely rhetorical btw lol

Defend Android all you want. Hate Apple. People just want a phone that works. Perhaps the most simple and most accurate statement...

Kaebfly, from my (an Android owner) perspective, I have struck up many a conversation about smartphones. It's always interesting, no matter what phone a person has.

It's not world hunger, or the economy, but it makes good conversation.

The adjectives I refer to come from how many iphone owners have ZERO clues about other phones, yet dismiss them all, including BB, Windows, etc.

I know a decent amount about all. Not saying they should, but don't claim your phone is the best based on what you are told.

Example: An iphone fan I work with was ecstatic over the "new" Notification Bar coming to iOS. When I explained my Android has had this for over a year, he said, "I don't care".

Example 2: When I brought up widgets to an iphone person, he replied, "I don't know what they are and don't want to know".

In other words, the attitude of a lot of ifans is "when our leaders give it to us on our phones, THEN it becomes relevant".

Otherwise, yes it could be a coincidence that the people I've known, met, dealt with in business, etc, that have iphones are the way they are personality wise.

And another comment on the "cult" thing, which of course, is tongue-in-cheek. Google any of the new product "get togethers" at Apple, especially when the iphone was first released. Look at the facial expressions, excitement, almost to the point where "passing around the Kool-aid" seems likely.

And because this non cult-worthy device I have keeps locking up, I will continue my thought.

Sure, it's normal to be stoked and excited about something you like (sports, music, electronics). Ifans just take it to another level. And as I've said, maybe that's because they are excellent products.

Sorry droidsw. Both sides can be cultish. Both sides have two sides of the spectrum. I seen both sides of the extreme and honestly they account for at best 10% of total users on each side.

With all due respect, Tidbits, (I should say) some Android owners are former iphone users and have a chip on their shoulder.

I came into the smartphone arena unbiased.

Iphone fans isolate themselves and don't care about other phone technology because they, like a cult, accept what they are given and are like sheep.

Android fans, on the other hand, often have their heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge all the warts of Android, even when the "evidence" is all around them.

And cult members are rarely de-programmed. As I've mentioned, I know quite a few Android owners that have left for iphones. The other way around? It must happen, just not in my experiences, and the ones that have seem to have an axe to grind (not that they didn't like the phone).

But, I really don't know why they left Apple. We'd have to ask them. Former Android owners leave because of buggy, glitchy phones. So, one group is cultish, the other in denial. And one more thing in regards to everyday conversation about phones. It's better than talking about the weather...........but a lot like politics.
