I am a DROID guy all the way. I love android and wanted to switch to the iPhone my self. I decided to go to the store and play with one, and compared the droid x and iphone 4 side by side. Here's some info you might consider..

DROID: The droid is no slouch, it truly does!. But it does have issues with lag and apps that crash from time to time.I love the ability to customize the phone how I want and the notification system is excellent. The only true negative I found (personal opinion) is that the iPhone's user interface is much more clean, elegant and organized. Other than that the droid does everything I want it to do.

iPhone: Love the design and it fits perfectly in my hands, it works well and is smooth. But the negative for me is that you need apps to get the most out of the phone and most of them are paid apps. Battery life is good but  my droid x is on par with it. And finally there's not much you can customize. I love live wallpapers and the ability to have  widgets. You can't add custom notification tones to the phone and your stuck with what the phone  comes with. Also notifications pop up in your face and doesn't stay out your way until you clear them.

At the end of the day it comes down to what you want. Before choosing just remember one thing. Choose the phone that will give you the best experience as a PHONE. Meaning call quality, reception and contacts management. For me both phones do it well but I just prefer the way android handles things. Bottom line if your into media (music, pics, games, videos) and you need an all in one simple to use phone get the iPhone. If you like customizing and making the phone work how you want it, stay with android.

Here are some general points that may help in your decision:

1. Android has come a long way and its getting better

2. Since you have the moto droid, its a good phone but outdated. The droid x and the newer ones that are coming out will give you a much better experience.

3.You have used android and since its time for an upgrade, why not try something different? Who knows it could be refreshing.

Good Luck

*I own multiple android devices, my primary phone DROID X.

*I use an iPod touch for all my media, apps and games.

Best of both worlds :smileywink:

Cheers!

Comparing JUST the OS, since Android/iPhone are roughly equal on the hardware front:

Android pros: customizability, lots of free apps, many are VERY good
Android cons: battery life, user learning curve

Iphone pros: battery life, easy to use
iPhone cons: not very customizable, not many (decent) free apps.

Honestly it comes down to, for me, customizability versus user-friendliness. I build computers as a hobby and user-friendliness is a non-issue for me, I quickly adapt to UI quirks and just work around then, whereas the customizability is a huge deal for me. I LOVE Live Wallpapers, custom lock screens, widgets, and all the other customizations that can't be done on iPhone. I'm also a big guy so the bulk of an extended battery honestly just doesn't phase me. If you need a thin phone that lasts all day, and don't care about customizing the phone to an extreme level (I mean custom launchers, lock screens, widgets, the whole nine yards, obviously the iPhone has customization in terms of like backgrounds and such), then the iPhone is a DRASTICALLY superior platform. It's all up to what factors you value most. Pick what makes you happy, don't let my love of Android sway you any more than other people's love of iPhone, pick what fits YOUR wants and needs!
