Iphone 4 (3G) network not reliable

Hello - Recently I was good for my 2 year renewal and decided to move into the Iphone 4.  I never pay for a phone as I have been with verizon for 8 years and always upgrade the phone with my 2 year contract. This time since taking possession of the Iphone 4, the calls fail, are dropped, and never hold the connection. I have continually reported this to verizon. On the first report, they sent me one new replacement but same problem. They attempted a second (refurbished) replacement which was annoying since I agreed to a New Phone and this was only 14 days into my new contract so I sent the refurbished back without activating.  I spoke to both telephone support and tech support at the store since I wondered after all the issues within less than a month, if my 3G was having compatibility issues since everything is marketed to around the 4G but yet they still sell 3G.  In some instances, they state that maybe its a location issue but the problem exists not only when in use at home but when in route and in other areas.  The first time, customer service said for $135 they will put me in a 4S.  Huh?  Is this a ploy to get a customer to pay out to get a working decent phone after agreeing to a 2 year contract.  I will not pay since verizon continues to make their money on me for the 2 year contract, and this is how I roll over the last 8 years.  I don't need too many bells and whistles. If the 3G was not supported or reliable, I would have selected a 4G smartphone which were options for the 2 year renewal. Now they tell me I have to pay a restocking fee (in addition to the already $35 upgrade paid which never happened since the Iphone 4 (3G) does not hold a call.  I know of one other person who complained about this very issue, too.  I plan to go back to the store tomorrow, return the phone, and not renew the 2 year given the phone is worthless, not to mention countless hours over the last month with customer service and tech support only to end up with no reliable connectivity when using the telephone.  I am looking into Tmobile, now.  This is a shame since I have been a long standing customer but find that the unreliability is too aggravating.  I wonder why sell a customer a 3G if the network apparently is not supporting 3G?  I live in Arizona and wonder if anyone else has this problem?

The 4s seems to be more reliable for signal but when my husband who has the 4 he presses *228 every month to just update the towers. Do you have voice roaming on?

Thanks.  I tried that many times and hoped that would resolve the issue but still connectivity issues with the 3G.

Do you have a case on the phone?

Wasn't it the iPhone 4 which has a problem with the antennae on the outside of the phone and depending on how you held it, it would lose connection?

That was on the AT&T models.  The antenna for the Verizon iPhone 4 was redesigned after "AntennaGate".

FWIW I never had any call issues that I can recall with my Verizon iPhone 4 in the 20 months that it was in use.  If I had service my calls were clear and I never had "drops".

Hey danzzing,

Just to let you know, I also do own an iPhone 4. I live right by a tower and sometimes find that my signal is significantly low to be located right by a tower. I am also successfully to solve the problem by calling *228 and pressing option 2.

Hope this solves your problem.
