Can't verify Apple ID to use with Find My iPhone

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've been trying to activate the Find My iPhone on my phone (following instructions from here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/find-my-iphone-setup/). But my iPhone keeps popping up a box saying:

Verify Your Account
This Apple ID's email address cannot be verified. Change your Apple ID's email address at appleid.apple.com to sign in to MobileMe.

I then logged onto appleid.apple.com and tried to verify the email and it too said it can't. It's my personal email address that I use to log into iTunes and other stuff. Why would it not be able to verify it? It's a Gmail account and it's typed correctly.

 

I posted this question on Apple's forum and got no replies. Thanks.

I had this exact same problem with my daughter iPod touch and I knew I was doing everything correctly because I had already done 2 iPhones and 2 other iPod touches the same evening.  After trying for about 3 hours and just getting frustrated I decided to take it to Apple the following morning.  What I found out is when i did the last update it missed adding a couple of "packets" so all that had to be done was a complete reset (on iTunes) which completely wiped out everything she had on it and then I just did a sync to put it all back on.  Only tok a couple of minutes and everything was perfect after that.  It sounds like the same thing happened to you.  Oh by the way Apple said that I may have just lost internet connection for a brief second and that is what probably caused it.

Thanks, swak37. How do you do the reset and sync with iTunes on Windows? I see the "Check for Update" and "Restore" options in iTunes. Should I use "Restore"?

I wiped the iPhone and restored it. Still no luck. It tells me the email address can't be verified -- yet it's a perfectly good email address and I use it daily. Hmm. Might have to take into the Apple store and let them look at it and see what can be done.

Yes it is the Restore button...............sorry it took me so long to get back with you.  You may want to go ahead and check for an update before you do the restore.  Just in case you have an update, that would actually solve the issue also.

I call bee-ess on Apple for telling you you probaby lost the connection for a second.  FIrst of all it should be resilient enough to not be broken by that; second, zillions of other people are having the same problems today on a variety of devices activating find my phone, mobile me, iCloud - just see the other messages here or over at Apple support.  I'm having it on a MacBook Air after upgrading to OS/X Lion 10.7.2 and trying to set up iCloud.
