Regarding Microsoft Short and Long term strategy; Looks like Apple did the same thing, albeit Apple has already unlocked all the frequency bands and Carriers are ready and willing to allow an iPhone on their networks.

Unless there was hardware complications which I can't imagine. Why they didn't make it work on CDMA doesn't make sense. Windows phones are much bigger overseas and CDMA is a thing of the past. It does make sense to concentrate on universal GSM first. Though so many phones now work on CDMA and GSM I don't get it. Maybe they want Verizon to pay up for another low-mid level exclusive. Which doesn't make any sense other then to try and please this group.

I do agree it's oddly an Apple copycat strategy, but the iPhone truly was an Att exclusive. It was also at a time when smart phones were a relative new thing. T mobile users can easily buy and use either phones. The one thing Apple had that Microsoft doesn't is the kids (future market). Kids are getting smart phones at a young age. Apple controls the iPod market not the Zuma. Kids have gone from the iPod like all their friends to the iPhone. So many people are just using basic phone uses and won't be changing because it's an exclusive so I really don't get the strategy. How people aren't getting mad about not having what should be basic. A removable battery and sd card slot befuddles me. Internal storage is crazy expensive. I just get the feeling Verizon is getting another different version to try and please this community.

Yep I agree, they could have done like Apple and had all the Bands unlocked from the beginning and still did their short - long term strategy. They still may be able to do the firmware update because of the chipset. This is still all speculation, as the wording of MS and Verizon has not yet said the phones will or not  be available on their and other networks in the future. Never the less MS should have unlocked the bands from the jump so people could better plan for purchasing of the phone.

IMHO if Microsoft truly wanted Windows Phone to succeed they should have gone to all the companies that had the most popular iPhone and Android apps and said hey we'll develop and maintain apps for you just to show what can be done in the OS.  Instead they waited for them to do it which we all know never happen being there's not a huge market share the OS.

I'm really hoping with Windows 10 Mobile and the introduction of universal apps and the ability to port iPhone and Android apps (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-windows-10-phone-android-ios,29022.html) that Windows 10 Mobile will take off.

Completely agree Primortal and geebox. I was so excited and still am about the porting. Normally I could careless about companies market share, but it affects where developers create and maintain apps. Literally my only issue with Windows mobile is a lack of apps. Spec for spec it's really a no brainer. Not even factoring in its lower cost. I'm running 10 on my Xbox and all my computers. While I wasn't a fan of 8 on non touch screens. The efficiency of just integrating these two different products with 10 has been awesome. The OS really means the most to me right now. Knowing the 735 will get an update might be good enough for me to stay on Verizon. Just wish we had all the answers since as I've been wanting to buy a new phone as of a few days ago. I really thought the products would be available on 10/10. So of course thought we would have had answers 10/6.

I can somewhat understand having one carrier for the initial rollout.  What I can't understand why not sell the devices unlocked that will work on all carriers from you're own stores.

That's the piece I'm curious about... Since we know that the Snapdragon 810 has the ability to work on Verizon's network, why was the decision made not to use it?  My guess is some political decision, but between which parties?  Of course, it could be as simple as Verizon's history of actively pushing people away from @Windows devices and AT&T at least being more positive about them.

There is none. Doesn't matter. Verizon can't block devices on their network that had block C. MS could just go straight to the FCC if Verizon does block it and they could lose their investment. See the Moto X, the iPhone and the current Nexus devices coming out.

I bet the only reason is to save on licensing costs as MS doesn't think there are many people who are going to purchase their phones on Verizon. Albeit they probably didn't realize most of the devices on Verizon are midrange to low-end compared to various devices out there.

Yea, I think the Universal App strategy is going to be a major game changer her in the USA.
