Unless WP grows SIGNIFICANTLY from it's current 3% North American market share, there is no reason for Verizon to commit a large amount of money to satisfy a handful of users. I'd love a flagship Windows phone too, but select markets in Europe have no bearing on what happens in the U.S. It's really up to Microsoft to put out a compelling lineup of devices that generate interest. Verizon looks at the numbers, and right now for WP, those numbers just aren't there.

IMO, I think Windows Phone market share would be a little (possibly significantly) higher if VZW stopped actively pushing customers away from the platform.  Instead, they play favorites... vigorously pushing Android while actually telling customers not to get a Windows Phone.  I really wish VZW was device agnostic and just focused on being a carrier.

When a new device for VZW comes out, I often get an e-mail letting me know.... except for Windows device - I don't think I've ever gotten an e-mail from VZW promoting a Windows device.  Even when the Icon came out (which I found out from Microsoft and other media, not VZW,) and I went into the store to look at it, they had it hidden behind an Android placard and multiple sales reps said they didn't know it even existed.  If someone wasn't actually looking for it, they wouldn't have known it existed.  (And of course, they pointed me toward the Droid and other devices.)

Side note:  For the record, I talked to another friend of mine this week and he informed me that if there is no WP10 device on VZW, he and his family would be swapping too.  (And I know that at one of my previous jobs, the vast majority had Windows devices and those with VZW will swap too.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if VZW will lose that corporate account - and that's thousands of devices.)

I am extremely interested in a Lumia 950 XL phone and Surface 3 Tablet combo.  But I would accept a 950 as well.  I don't even mind signing a disclaimer that releases Verizon from any hardware support beyond allowing the phone on their network.  I'm also willing to pay full price for the phone if it gets manufactured for Verizon's system and Verizon allows it on the network.

I am tired of all of the pains with an Android phone.  I am tired of trying to find usable apps on Google Play only to read in large numbers of reviews they are broken after the upgrade to Lollipop.  I am tired of browsing apps on Google Play and finding 90% of them are full of adware.  It is almost like the huge majority of the apps revolve around personal users instead of business users.  I am also tired of Samsung creating fewer features on their phones to make it more like an iPhone.  I was going to consider the Galaxy Note 5 (but they removed SD slot and removable battery).

And I don't want the limitations of an iPhone.  The applications in their store may or may not have the same problems but the whole operating system and hardware is much more restricted.

love my 928, people think I'm crazy for having it and being excited for the 950, but they are good phones and really hope Verizon will carry the new ones, but not getting my hopes up. It goes back to when I got my lumia 928 2 years ago and they kept pushing me away from it even though it is what I wanted, they still tried to steer me away from a windows phone. maybe I will be surprised and they will carry it, but I doubt it.

I for sure want a Lumia 950. I already had the Icon and I love the potential that the W10 Ecosystem offers. If Verizon fails to carry this device, I'll be taking my 2 lines and 170.00 a month to AT&T. It's sad really... I've been a customer since they bought out Alltel and was with Alltel as long as I had a cell phone prior.

I really like Verizon service. However, when I bought the Icon, the store associates did everything they could to try to talk me out of buying it and alienated me anytime I went to the Verizon store after (to purchase accessories and such). All because I didn't want to buy an iPhone (gross) and I didn't want an Android phone... Simply because I wanted something different... They also didn't know ANYTHING about the device. Literally nothing. All they really had to say was that it was a Windows Phone and it was junk.

Thanks for posting this issue.

I have been a windows phone user since pre-mango (HTC Trophy).  This is despite the fact that every time I go to Verizon I am actively dissuaded by the sales rep to move to Android or Apple.  I even had one sales person tell me that Nokia made poor quality phones, didn't have a good history of making phones, and the Nokia phones had terrible cameras.

I was devastated by the news that the Lumia 950/950XL will not be coming to Verizon.  If that is the case then I will have to change my carrier.  I have been with Verizon since 2003 or maybe before that.  I don't want to leave, the coverage is great.  However, the thought of switching to Android or Apple is simply not an option at this point.  I hope that Verizon and Microsoft can work out their differences and allow willing customers to get the phones they want.

Original search: Lumia 950 Verizon

As an independent Microsoft developer and windows phone fanatic I will say I will drop my family off Verizon if there is not an immediate device available for us on the release date of Microsoft's next phone.

I get I might not be your cash cow, but I'll be damned if I stay with you after all these years if you do not give me a device where updates come from the manufacture on time without your interference; whom Microsoft in my opinion have their operating system figured out without your help.

You (Verizon) get back to serving bandwidth, and let the consumers make our own decisions on how we want to enjoy paying for your service.

In this case I think it's up to Microsoft to take the leap of faith and prove their mobile platform has legs. The simple and undeniable fact is that in North America, WP has an INSIGNIFICANT market share. It's up to MICROSOFT to build it's user base. Make the CDMA version, give both Verizon and Sprint (hey, why not?) on no-fault terms so the carriers are not on the hook for unsold units, and BUILD THE BRAND!!! Asking Verizon to go out on a limb to support a fringe (yes - that's right - fringe) operating system is silly. Not. Gonna. Happen. It's just a business decision. Same thing with BlackBerry. Nobody wants to carry them and support them because it's a losing proposition. When you're Verizon and have the best network anywhere, you don't need to eat losses to court every user you can scrounge up.
