The FCC is not going to force Verizon to roll out an update.

Granted the FCC cannot force Verizon but; and not holding my breath on this but the FCC can put out a rule that all carriers must release updates received from manufactures for all devices supported on said carriers network no later than 60 days. If an exception is needed it must be filed before the 60 day window.  If the update is not released within 60 days (sans exception) a fine will be changed per day till said update is released or exception filed.

"You do realize they can't just cut off CDMA".   And why not!?  As you guys have stated, Verizon can do whatever they want.  Who's going to stop them?  The FCC?  They have no control over Verizon (remember).   If Verizon can cut off "unlimted data" why can't they just announce to all people who have a CDMA device that Verizon will no longer be supporting CDMA devices, so when you device contract is over,  you will be required to get a VOIP device to replace it?  Most people wouldn't mind getting a new phone anyway especially if it means we won't have these long delays in updates anymore.

HUGE difference between cutting off CDMA and unlimited data. Also even using your own suggestion since people have just signed new contracts so the soonest Verizon could cut off CDMA would be late 2016. And yes the FCC could stop Verizon form just abruptly cutting off CDMA. I'm not sure why you think it's like flipping a switch.

It's been over 2 years and Verizon hasn't cut off unlimited data. People still have it today... People speculated Verizon was going to drop it back in July. They just stopper offering the plan.

People wouldn't buy new phones. If that was true. It wouldn't be any different than switching carriers at this very moment which the vast majority of people haven't done including yourself.

"...people have just signed new contracts so the soonest Verizon could cut off CDMA would be late 2016"   Incorrect.  Most people who have signed new contracts have done so with new devices that support LTE data.  VOIP would use the LTE antenna, not the CDMA antenna.  They would not lose service with any device that has LTE capability and there are very, very few customers left on VZW that have CDMA only devices (maybe some old iPhone 3Gs out there.)  If Verizon doesn't mind pi55ing off us WP users with delays on updates, what makes you think they would give a care about the few iPhone 3G users out there losing their CDMA devices?

Most not all. What about people that still use basic phones?

very few? "Only" 40% as of the end of quarter 2 2014( June 30th ). Verizon had 22 million basic phones and 20 million 3G only smartphones.

My friend Verizon and other carriers would to say it mildly "fight it" and because its a governing body the people that oversee them are "US Senators & Congressman" who receive big money from Verizon.

By the time the FCC even got around to agree on that or any time frame our cell phones will be built into our bodies.

Did you just say that U.S. Senators and Congressman received bribes from Verizon to prevent changes being made?  "US Senators & Congressman" who receive big money from Verizon...."   Hmmm sounds like a bribe to me.  You have any documentation to back that statement up (i.e., facts)?  Since you and Tidbits only state "facts" on this forum...

About unlimited data? Or CDMA testing?

You can ask around anyone who deals with CDMA. Ask the Cyangenmod company on what hack they used to make it work, and why they have to use a hack. You'll also see any device they put their name on has no CDMA like the Oppo N1 and the OnePlus One. They've went on record before.

As for unlimited data...

Just look around the forums. People are keeping their unlimited data plans right? So how is Verizon forcing them gone? You have options to keep them. Forcing would be... It's gone take that! No option or no recourse. People believed this should have happened in July.

They are called PAC's Political Action Committees. Each representative has one.

Their donations list as well as what Verizon gives to these senators and congressmen are PUBLIC access knowledge.

Available from the FEC (Federal Election Commission) or even down to State and County Elections Boards.

Corporations and candidates have to list their donors. Its the law.
