I'm a Droid user and want to shift to Lumia Icon. You may have these available but not all I think.

I use the following often:

Skype, USAA, Flight Board, gStrings, Fly Delta[poor reviews], Amazon, Weather Bug, BBC News, Waze, Moon Phase, You Tube, WiFi Analyzer

How many of these are available for a Lumia Icon WP 8.1?

You can search for the apps here, http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store

Off the bat Windows Phone has the following apps

  • Skype
  • Amazon
  • Fly Delta
  • BBC News (no official app from BBC though)
  • Weather Bug
  • Metrotube (YouTube equivalent)
  • USAA
  • Airyware Tuner (gString equivalent)

The major apps that are missing are Banking Apps.  There are a few, but major banks like Regions Bank, Capital One Bank, are nowhere to be found for Windows Phone.  Microsoft should be pursuing these banks to develop apps for the platform.  Maybe bribe them with free software or tech support or something.  Also some of the dating apps like Grindr for the gay community, Blender for the straight community, are lacking as well.  Perhaps Microsoft could assist them in developing the "unified" app for both Windows and Windows Phone?

In fact, Microsoft would do well to begin a "Developer Assistance Program" where developers could (for a small fee) contact the DAP Center and get assistance with issues creating apps for the Windows Platform.  If developers know they have a source to go for assistance, they may be more inclinded to develop better apps.

I miss the Banking apps, and the integration with Square, Paypal card readers.

I also miss the retail apps, like Target's Cartwheel, Costco, Safeway (grocery).

I've used both Windows and Android platforms and I do like both!

There are also a few great resources to find your favorite app or an alternative app:

Where's my App? - enter the app you are looking for and check its status and/or find an alternative

App Social - you can get the latest info on the app on the top of the chart, get the latest on newly released apps

Or go to app switch at http://xyo.net/lumia/iphone/?inclWP8=True

Chose your old OS and check for your favorite apps on WP8

Waze is also already on Windows Phone and since it looks like you have concerns for travel, Uber also just re-released on Windows Phone today.
