You truly are killing your own arguments.

Really? you really need to try harder,,,,,

A Promise is not an agreement.

They can promise to put out updates for the next 30 years, does not matter.

That is not an agreement.

You really like them strawman arguments don't you?

It's plain as day from every post.

You seriously are full of it.

Dude... You are not using your head... Make your own device and talk to Microsoft.  Sign that agreement and you will see that magical agreement.

How is MS going to force manufacturers to comply with their promise?  If they had no way to enforce that promise then they would be shooting themselves in the foot...  They are not that brainless.

Not applicable

You know who really cares what goes on behind the curtains?

The problem is the End Users (customers) are not guaranteed any updates.

The whole mess on this thread and four others is customers are demanding Verizon release updates to their devices from Windows and Android and Blackberry (Apple does their own)

However when a device is sold I don't care for sake of argument if it dials mars and the GUI winks at you and says good morning. Then at time of sale all that was in the device at time of manufacture functions no one can now complain that because these companies put out an update to not only say good morning but now says good night. I use these examples as jokes but I am sure you understand my drift.

And a case of comparison is each year let's take the car industry for example, the dodge dart has a CD and radio with a premium sound system (no I do not own a dart) and it has sattalite radio and GPS navigation.  The system CAN be upgraded but it is done at a cost. The enhancements that make it better are not just upgraded for free in the vehicles. The customer pays.

Same principal with cell phones in the time of purchase it does this or does that does not entitle me to continuous updates to have better this or that. To match newer models of that device or even other models.

Just like with cars. You want update 8.1 or kitty Kat 4.4.4 then pay for it. It was not on the device at time of sale.

And personally I don't care about code or who is waiting for whom to test it or add garbage ware. The cell carriers ask device makers to place their bloatware on their branded devices. Verizon and other carriers sure don't do it themselves.

That would be like the US Government giving out design and specs to Russia to build our defense weapons. It just won't happen. The least number of people involved the better.

I read complaints here Verizon is the only carrier not releasing updates. That is false. AT&T is the only carrier to release the update there are three major carriers left (Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint) and I am not even sure if Sprint sells windows phone and I really don't care.

And for all the so called FCC complaints, notice how it is zero effect. The placating from them and the deflection from Verizon and other carriers still gives no time table if or when any update will happen.

People have to wait and see. Since you are not entitled to any update since the device worked at time of sale and still does the customers did get what they paid for.

Another example Microsoft sells each generation of their operating system, Windows 7 to 8 and now Windows 9.

It is an upgrade. But you pay for it.

Same should apply for cell phones. This way its not something you have to have but will pay for the next generation if you the customer want it.

Good Luck

I recently read that Microsoft is working on the latest firmware update for the Lumia line called "Lumia Denim".  Lumia Denim will add some really nice features and updates to the camera and the ability to access Cortana via passive activation (using your voice by simply saying "Hey Cortana.")  I also read that there will be three new phones that will arrive with Denim already installed (the Lumia 730, 735 and 830).  There will also be three existing phones that will have Denim "available for download very soon."  These three phones are the 930, 1520 and the Icon.

Does anyone think it's possible that the reason we haven't received the Cyan firmware update yet is because Verizon and Microsoft are currently testing the new Denim firmware update and plan to skip Cyan altogether?  I sure would LOVE that!  Maybe they will release Cyan firmware update for the 928 at the same time?  Thoughts anyone?

"Samuli Hanninen, who runs software program management for the Nokia phones, told me later that going forward, the Lumia group will be focused on things where the hardware can add differentiation on top of the core Windows Phone operating system, like the camera; interaction technology, such as using the sensor core to enable the glance screen or "Hey Cortana"; and connectivity solutions, such as the NFC–enabled screen sharing.

Of course, there's a current update called Lumia Cyan that works with Windows Phone 8.1. I noted that as a Verizon user, I can't get that yet on my Lumia 928, which Hanninen attributed to a need for testing with the special modem in that unit."

That sounds like CDMA signed keys by Qualcomm, and their testing which I mentioned earlier in one of these threads, and there's plenty of documentation on this.  Ironically it got passed off as hearsay or fear mongering... But hey what do I know?

Thanks a bunch Big Red.  That was sarcasm if you couldn't tell.  First your sales rep tried to talk me out of the Icon and into an S5, then you haven't updated a single Windows phone before AT&T is complete with upgrades.  Why bother carrying them at all if you don't want to be bothered with them?  I bought the Icon with the assumption that a fairly new device would surely get the soon coming WP 8.1 update.  Guess that makes me the fool.
