Re: Nokia announced Cyan availability 4 weeks ago. What is the rollout plan, Verizon?

The carriers are not responsible for your non functioning device. The support people trouble shoot your connection to the cellular and data network. That is what service you are paying for.

However customers think because of device updates the carriers are responsible for tech support to get a device that worked prior to the update to function again. The carriers are not responsible for your now messed up device.

When Verizon and others tell customers to go to device makers, the customer calls and the device makers send you back to the carrier since they blame the carriers. Do you see what is happening?

If you realized that the carriers are not responsible for your phone not working as before the update the carriers should simply say "take it up with the device makers" and hang up the phone.

The carriers do not manufacturer phones so all the threats against them should not occur for device updates.

It really is that simple

Your last line is a bold faced lie!  Microsoft, in particular Joe Belfiori, CEO of Microsoft Phone Division, specifically requested this same strategy, but was denied by Verizon!  So, no, Microsoft could NOT adopt a similar strategy!

Not really true.

Microsoft just has not provided the right incentive for Verizon. Apple provided the incentive of an EXTREMELY POPULAR platform in order to get that agreement. When Apple first tried, they were denied too!!!! They built up the platform, increased demand despite load problems with AT&T at the time and THEN Verizon was ready to cave in to Apple's demands when the opportunity resurfaced. IF what you say is true, Apple WOULD NOT currently be on Verizon since they were "denied by Verizon" initially. Eventually they WERE NOT DENIED by Verizon. The problem is Microsoft may or may not be successful by following the same route as Apple, but that DOES NOT mean they cannot adopt a similar strategy!!!!!!

I don't want to keep doing your research for you.

Many different stories all say the same. Sales have dropped. Not dipped.

With Android number one, and get this Apple iOS is 12% at number two spot. Windows phones are not catching on, sales are not good and the next quarter will have even more dismal results.

Research it.

VZW sees otherwise.  If sales are truly dipping why invest in the HTC One M8 at all

Just because sales are "dipping" does not mean there is NO demand. Even a 2.5% share of a 100 million subscriber base is nothing to sneeze at. They haven't dropped BB either, yet according to the article posted above, their sales have "dipped" even more than Windows Phone.

I would say the investment is money for the shareholders. Other providers sell the windows phones they don't want to miss out on possible revenue.

Inventory I will guess can be returned as the big box retailers do. Verizon is also a retailer. So if the devices fall flat or not at all they just return them. Good business either way Smiley Happy

Show me in your contract that you are EVEN entitled to an update.

Show me in your contract that VZW owes you an update.

Apparently, you didn't read any of my previous comments, so let me fill you in.

1) Verizon does not update my phone, Microsoft Mobie OY (formerly Nokia) does!  So it would not be in my contract with Verizon.  Microsoft "OFFERS" the update to us for our devices, but we don't have to accept.  We can decline the update.

2) Although most people presume there is only one update, there are in fact two updates combined into one.  The OS update to Windows Phone 8.1 and the firmware update to Lumia Cyan from Lumia Black.

3) Verizon doesn't make changes to the OS or the firmware, they only test them and if there are no problems discovered, grants approval for Microsoft to push both updates to your device OTA (Over The Air using Verizon's network).  And as previously stated, we can either accept the update, or decline and leave our phones as is.

4) Unless Verizon can show just cause for denying the update (can prove it will cause issues on their network), Verizon has no legal right to disallow Microsoft Mobile OY from updating our device.  That does not require a contract between anyone, it's the law in the United States.  If I purchased a TV from Best Buy and the manufacturer said they wanted to add some features to your tv and fix a few issues with a firmware update to your tv, would you need Best Buy's permission to update your TV?  But if you were getting your TV signal through Best Buy then naturally Best Buy would want to test the firmware to ensure your signal isn't disrupted.

5) The fact that we are waiting so long for this update is because Verizon is taking their time "testing" this update.  Some say it's because they want to sell more HTC One M8s, some say it's because they want to be thorough in ther testing.  Regardless of why, it is Verizon who is currently holding up this update, and they have had it for testing since July 15th.   I can understand and even appreciate quality testing, but 7 weeks is REDICULOUS!
