You are not paying Verizon for updates to your device. Show me that in any customer agreement.

And please stop talking about the executive from Verizon wireless and what he told you.

If I were him/her I would tell you anything you want to hear. Then make a note in your file and classify you as a kook or disgruntled customer. What was said to you still did not get you that update, did it?

Twenty years ago my sports car was in for service at the dealer, they broke some parts and said it was not their fault. I called the service manager and got a run around, I called the zone office who deflected it back to the service manager, I called the corporate office to file a complaint about the zone office actions, the service managers actions, and the dealership management. All I got was a customer file with a big letter "A" on it.

Just guess what the "A" stood for?

So my complaints went on deaf ears. Just like windows users complaints about an update.

However in my case I took the dealership to court. I gave pertanent information based on facts, I produced all the letters and call logs I had gathered and I was fully paid back and then some.

So the "A" really did not bother me. However outside the court room hall the dealer told me to just go to another service place.

You also can change providers if that update is so all fired important. Myself I care more about coverage and call and data quality on Verizon's network.

Not a update. You have to set better priorities

You asked for it, you get it...

Direct from Microsoft...

http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2011/03/10/phone-updates-process-and-timing/

This has been the process since 2011 and it remains so even until today!

Eric Hautala is a Microsoft executive who runs the team responsible for sending software updates with new features and improvements to our phones.  In his blog on the above link, he clearly states:

"There's one more thing I want to clear up.  I've seen a lot of speculation on blogs and forums lately about whether carriers can "block" an update.  We work closely with carriers to test and schedule updates.  They may ask us for a specific date to start an update.  They may ask for updates to be bundled together.  But you should ultimately receive all the updates we send out."

There is your proof that carriers cannot "block" updates.  They can test the update with (or without) assistance from Microsoft, but must ultimately release the update, unless they can prove that the update causes a problem on their network, in which case, they can inform Microsoft who will make adjustments for the carriers to retest.  But still once that problem is resolved, MUST ultimately release the update.

As I have stated all along, if the carriers would not DEMAND interfernece with these updates, I would not be holding them at fault for the delay in receiving the update!

I just answered this at the other thread.

Microsoft can not compel any carrier to accept their updates. Period.

Microsoft is a separate business from Verizon Wireless.

Now even if carriers did not want to block an update, now think about this carefully.....

Verizon just holds up the process say six months, twelve months, eighteen months etc.

Now the original update is defunct, let's say Cyan, now Denim, and checkers is next. Verizon now is two updates behind so more complaints and they delay even more. There is not a thing you can or anyone can do about it.

This for any OS updates windows or android or blackberry (iOS not included)

The interference with carriers I agree with you. However new phones come out all the time. The OS on the device may be old out of the gate. But you and I and others cannot demand anything. We bought the devices operational and as made at time of sale.

Wrong!  There is something they CAN do about it.  Haul Verizon into court.  Will they, probably not, but they could.  That might not be the smartest move on a manufacturer's part, as they may not get another device sold on that network, but then again, if given the right law suit and judgement, the carrier might be forced through legislation to allow that manufacturer direct updates like Apple.  Hmmmm!

If Microsoft ever took VZW to court, VZW would no long carry any related WP devices and issue an EOL for the current ones

Which is why I stated "Will they, probably not..."

And also, remember, this isn't just about Windows Phones.  Android users are dealing with these same delays for their updates.  What if both Microsoft and Google hauled Verizon into courst over this issue.  Will Verizon be willing to EOL all WPs and Android phones.  Is Verizon willing to become an Apple iPhone carrier only?  How many customers would Verizon lose over that?  Also, the other carriers would have a field day with advertisements: "Join carrier X, where we don't have to be hauled into court to update your device."

I'm not asking for the world here, only that Verizon have a little respect and consideration for us paying customers whose monthly payments pay their salaries.  We are asking for quicker updates, not "no updates."  I would think that Verizon would want to attempt to do a better job of this if they know we are unsatisfied.  Why is that asking too much?

Companies take other companies to court all the time and STILL have a working relationship afterwards. If Microsoft had a case OR a reason to believe Verizon was needlessly delaying the update, they would be in court.Smiley Happy

Yes lets look at Android updates. People come on here and cry about where is my Kitty Kat or now Key Lime Pie and say they are mad and going to switch providers and complain to congress and MI6 etc.

It still comes out when Verizon is good and ready. Does it not?

Then these same people are back here complaining how Verizon bricked their phones, WiFi does not work, notifications don't come in any longer, my speaker does not work, cellular connections are unstable yada yada yada.

Verizon better replace my device, Verizon better fix my device, Verizon better roll back this crummy update.

And Verizon did not code the update and yet get the heat. Just like the AT&T forum on the Windows Phone updates.

Your update has absolutely nothing for customer satisfaction. Just a rain drop in the ocean.

Ahhh... Elector telling people how little help there is in complaining about verizon and how poorly they perform in communicating to their customers.
