I posted on another thread that the pay for the upgrade would be the way to go.

No FCC complaints and updates will go to those who pay. And you are spot on with its a money maker.

Customers pay and device makers make money. Verizon makes money. Customers can stop complaining since it will be a pay for upgrades. Then see how many upgrades start rolling out. Oh boy will they roll out

I would absolutely pay for software updates, under the following conditions:

1 - I would not pay for an update that is obsolete. Ex, I wouldn't pay for Cyan right now with Denim announced.

2 - I would not pay for an update membership. Ex: Pay $20 a month for all phone updates. Not happening, because we will end up where we are now with delayed updates - only difference is I will be paying and still waiting.

3 - I would not pay ridiculous prices for updates. Ex: Pay $90 for update when you can purchase the entire phone online for $150.

You people are insane to pay for updates.  Why should I pay for security fixes let along OS/Firmware updates?  If MS/Apple/Google isn't the one charging for updates the carrier have no place instituting a fee for updates.  Worse case I would rather have them bake that charge into my monthly payment.

You have some good points. I enjoyed your breakdown of how to pay.

Personally even if pay for updates were the way to go, Microsoft and others would find a way to milk it just like the constant Windows updates on the computer.

First MS/Google/Apple are not going to charge for updates, it's ridiculous.  The only time if any is major OS updates like going from Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 9.  If any of them started charging for update there would be a HUGE uproar.

Only the carriers would be greedy enough to place a charge on updates and I bet MS/Google/Apple would have something to say about that.

You are missing the point. No one said the carriers would be charging.

The idea I raised is if the updates were made available for a cost, the threads about where is my updates?

And I am going to the FCC if Verizon does not give it to me. Will cease.

Your device manufacturer in conjunction with the OS developer (Microsoft in this case) can charge if they wanted to. You see the upgrades are enhancements not required for phone basic functionality.

This is like paid and unpaid apps people use. They are not really required but the functionality improves with paid versus free.

This also runs along the old line of "If it ain't broke don't fix it" then no more complaining about updates.

Just think about it?

We aren't really talking about security updates or bug fixes. Its the OS updates which provide new features. 8.1 with Cortana has new features and functionality. Cyan the same.

I don't think people are complaining because they want an update to provide a bug fix or security update for something they aren't already having a problem with.

I think we said something similar at the same time.

There is no winning in this battle.  There would be threads about "why do I have to pay for updates".  Or "I paid for this update and it bricked my phone."

Paid/Unpaid apps; this is apples and oranges in comparison to OS in which a large corporation with massive budgets is behind the development where as with most app there's a few people who spend their off hours working on apps and would like a little compensation for their effort.

I'm convinced that you are a Verizon employee posing as a Verizon fan!  Plain and simple.  I don't know of any other user that would be on here TROLLING as much as you do about how wonderful Verizon is, while everyone else is complaining about the delay in updates.  And not just on the Lumia devices, but ALL devices (except Apple iPhone of course, and you already know my opinion on that issue).

You can give example after example in your attempt to justify Verizon's total disregard of customer satisfaction regarding this issue, but you won't change our minds.  Verizon is at complete fault for the delay in this update and you, I and everyone else on here knows it.  You can also scream all you want to about "Verizon doesn't have to update your device," and maybe they do, maybe they don't, but ask yourself one question.  How does NOT updating the phone and satisfying your customer base help your company?  How many individuals on here are screaming that they will be switching to AT&T once their contract is up?  Is this the kind of customer satisfaction you would desire for your company?

Microsoft, itself, has realized the power of criticism.  They have listened to the cries and woes of their customers and have made dramatic changes to their OS platform.  Has this acceptance of public criticism and learning from it hurt Microsoft?  No.  In fact, as a result, more and more people are returning to Microsoft as their choice in OS.  So here we are, paying customers of Verizon complaining, asking, and in some cases begging Verizon to alter their update process, and your suggested response from Verizon is "be patient, stop complainging, you'll get it when you get it, if at all..."?   If so, you have a really twisted and insulting logic!
