Why not just take my suggestion to get GDR3 right now? Keep in mind when Verizon does approve it the call/SMS blocker will probably not block calls just as is the case for the GDR2 and Amber update. Plus which Microsoft have stated 8.1 will be available to anyone on the preview program on April 2 so if you follow my lead you will have 8.1 in April while everyone else has to wait as long as August for it and whatever Nokia calls the next firmware update?

It's not just the GDR3 update that we are waiting for.  We need the Nokia Black firmware update in order for things to work in GDR3.  There are apps that will NOT work on GDR3 unless you have the Nokia Black firmware update first.  Also, I don't know where you received the information that Windows Phone 8.1 will be available in April, but even if that is true, I've recently read that we won't be able to update to WP8.1 without the Nokia Black firmware update, even if you do the Developer Preview.  This is why Nokia is pushing out the Black firmware update ahead of WP 8.1.  So, if Verizon doesn't push out this firmware update, we 928 users will not get WP 8.1 and we won't be able to take full advantage of WP 8, update 3.  And if that happens, I'll be saying goodbye to Verizon!

Some clarification, Nokia Black goes inconjunction with Update 3 (GDR3).  Granted the firmware might be required for WP 8.1 on Nokia devices but nothing have been official.  We'll not know until Microsoft BUILD in April when they announce WP 8.1.

Additional clarification - Nokia Black firmware update "IS PUSHED" in conjuction with GDR3 (AKA Update 3).  Nokia Black is firmware written by Nokia.  Update 3 (GDR3) is the Operating System from Microsoft.  They are SEPARATE software updates that will be pushed down to our devices "in conjuction with each other."

I grow mushrooms, we use sheep manure.  And some mushroom grow fine in the daylight too.

Just because Nokia made their phones compatible with the update, doesn't mean they will work without issue on the Wireless Network.  It's not that simple.  We all wish it was, but it isn't.  Why would Verizon get an update that is 100% ready to be rolled out and NOT do it?  Even the most inept management team has enough scruples to do the "sure thing."

On your main point, however,  I agree.  A simple community statement giving an update on the process would do a lot to calm their users angst.

  1. Verizon does not make policies with their customers "feelings" in mind.  VZW will never disclose the release date of a phone.  VZW will never disclose the release date of a software update.
  2. If you are a Verizon customer who paid for a phone, you have full rights to the latest version of software that supports that phone.  Check out the FCC rules and regulations for telecommunication companies like Verizon.
  3. As a Verizon customer, you are entitled to your software update the day Microsoft or Nokia releases it.  As it was explained to me by Microsoft with the GDR2 release:  if you don't have an update notification on your Nokia device, contact the FCC at www.fcc.gov/complaints.
  4. In 2013, I filed my GDR2 complaint with the FCC against Verizon.  While I lend it more to ironic timing, GDR2 was ready for my phone within 7 days.  10 days later, Verizon called to confirm that I got my  update based on my complaint.
  5. If Verizon is going to sell a device, it is their responsibility to support the device on a timely basis.  The issues of "testing on our network" is not our problem.  It is up to Verizon to seek earlier beta or release copies of software updates to test within a reasonable timeframe.  Failure to do so will result in Verizon receiving fines from the FCC based on complaints that are filed.
  6. The FCC Complaint Website is also a handy tool for addressing Verizon billing problems, failure to reimburse, poor connectivity issues, and the data plan game that they are all so famous for (sell you a new phone with a short data plan - then when you go over your data, you end up with a data bill the same size as your phone bill).
  7. There is no reason to feel like Verizon has any kind of stranglehold on you.  You are the customer.  You have rights.  You have choices.  You have the responsibility of educating yourself on what your options are with each carrier.  While US carriers have more control over phone hardware than you see overseas, you still have a number of rights - and the FCC is there to back you up to make sure you get what you paid for.

So if you think GDR3 and Black are late due to Verizon (which it is), take the time to file your complaint.  Sitting on a Verizon Forum arguing about Verizon is just what they want you to do. Negative or positive press is still press.  Let the FCC hit them in the pocketbook if they are not going to make support of their line of Windows Phones a priority.

@MaddogFL62 - Thank you VERY much for this information.  I was completely unaware of any of this.  I contacted the Better Business Bureau regarding this issue, but they did not have any assistance information for me.  I will DEFINITELY contact the FCC on this issue now and I suggest any other persons reading this do the same!  Thanks again!

@MaddogFL62 - This is really helpful information, and I was wondering if you could make an actual discussion post about this subject as I feel a lot of people may not know that they have those rights (me for example) and they do not know that they can report this to the FCC. I had no idea I had those rights and I filed a complaint with the FCC as soon as I read your post, and I hope many others will do the same. Hopefully we can get more people to do this if the information is made more readily to them.

I agree ot was good to know about the FCC. The person the tried the BBB first while the FCC page also focused on billing which also would fall under the BBB they will not go after them for things like phone software updates, tower down in your area, your area has lousy coverage, etc. Crying to the BBB only really worms best for examples such as the following:

Scenario #1 you have gone through several phones die to defects or mechanical failures at no fault of your own and after going through all the proper channels at Verizon you cannot get a satisfactory solution i, e, you want a NEW device.

Scenario #2 You called about a problem on your bill, being charged for services you didn't sign up for, being charged for calls/texts that you did not make and you have the necessary paperwork to prove these cases and after going through the proper channels at VZW the issue is still not resolved.
