Actually LOLUPFEE, I am using the Preview for Developer on my Nokia Lumia ICON, and I have had a slight change in mind in the last day since installing it a few days ago. I think there are is some legitimacy to Verizon wanting more "quality" out of the update. I am not going to go to the extreme as some on this forum do and say that Verizon has no fault in this update fiasco, because I believe they should be more transparent to users about their dealings with any device manufacture or software company. Understandably being transparent could hurt their profits, but I am a customer that values honesty and transparency. I am not gong to go the opposite extreme though and say it is all Microsoft's fought, even "if" they are dropping the ball on the update. Even if Microsoft was supposed to train Verizon salespeople how to interact with the Windows phone, Verizon should not allow their employees to bash any device they sale. If I were Verizon I would not run my company in such a way that aloud workers to dis any device I was selling. But that is not what the topic is about so I will give a few reasons why I have had a slight change in mind in that I now think Microsoft does need to address Verizon's quality concerns.

From using dev preview (currently still using) and skimming att forums:

  1. Today I noticed I could not access the internet after going out of range from wifi, the phone should have auto switched to using network Data. I think there is an option for this, no matter what this should be set by default. But the way I fixed it was to turn on and turn off airplane mode. (Then that's when the idea popped into my head) Users over in the att forums are experiencing issues with airplane mode, most likely a legit issue on the Verizon Lumia phones as well.
  2. Also, there other issues I have noticed and have already mentioned in other threads. A lot of this may be that I don't have the Cyan firmware, but maybe not.

The fact that Joe said the update would be coming later to me sounds like Microsoft just started working on the updates again recently after a long break. For whatever reason there was this long break, who knows, this is where I feel both companies should be more transparent.

Whatever it may be, I feel Microsoft is going in the right direction with the update, it is growing into a really nice OS, platform, and ecosystem. So I do feel Microsoft is hard at work at something, because I am pretty impressed with the additions/features in windows phone update 8.1. Although I wish they would add the feature to place speed dial tiles on the home screen instead of having to press the users tile and then pressing call to call them. Also, adding a flashlight tile on the home screen without having to use an app would be nice. It would be sort of like widgets under android but instead a tile that toggles the flashlight on and off.

I also think that even if Verizon is not obligated to update any device, it would be taboo for them not to update a device. So bringing that up as an excuses for users not to expect an update is just not cool. If there is any fine print that states that a company is not obligated to update phones then that needs to be fought in court to force carriers to provide updates. I don't care if carriers loose money, they can adjust how they make money so that they don't loose money. There needs to be a longer update life cycle of at least two years if not three or four. They should build this into their fee structure so they are not burned on updating phones. But in my opinion they are already price gouging us so they should have plenty of money to not have to worry about this.

I am willing to bet you are the Only person on this forum saying they should up their prices and provide updates. The 99.999% of the others are already complaining they pay to much for the service

Read between the lines: "But in my opinion they are already price gouging us so they should have plenty of money to not have to worry about this". Its pretty clear I am not saying up prices...its pretty obvious that I am just trying to say that that they could up their prices or restructure without upping prices, BUT and this is the big CAVEAT: they don't need to up prices, because you are correct, they charge over the top already. I think they have to many employees in their brick and mortar shops, so that is restructure number one...

So a combination of restructuring will lower prices and backing off wanting to go crazy on profits will lower prices.

I disagree. Microsoft is bailing on hardware and going to focus on software and clouds. The Windows Phone will go the way of the Zune.

Sadly, I think you're right. Hardware has been commoditized. All the emphasis is now on services like cloud.

The Microsoft web page for the Nokia Lumia 822 specifications: : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/phone/lumia822/specifications/

has:

Operating System     Software release Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Cyan

It also says: "The Lumia 822, exclusively from Verizon".
