Microsoft Update: ‘Lumia 950 XL’ Disassembly, And Why Latest Lumia Phones Will Not Work On Verizon

That's the headline and here's a link to the article on the Morning News USA

http://www.morningnewsusa.com/microsoft-update-lumia-950-xl-disassembly-and-why-latest-lumia-phones-...

First two paragraphs:

Even though the hardware of the latest Lumia phones is compatible with Verizon, the carrier is blocking the devices on its network. For now, the phones are available only through AT&T in the U.S.

What is more surprising is that both devices will be shipped unlocked, but still, not even Verizon SIM users will be able to make these devices work on the network. Why? Because the company is refusing to authenticate Microsoft’s Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL on its network. Now how do they do it? Every mobile phone comes with a unique Mobile Equipment Identifier, also known as MEID number. To authenticate a device, Verizon authorizes this number in order to connect. So even if you insert the company’s SIM card, it won’t authorize your device, because its MEID number will be either unlisted in its database or blocked.

Got it?  Guess it's time to go elsewhere.

Even if the Lumias would work on Verizon, why couldn't you do the same thing Nexus users do and use an already activated SIM in a Lumia?

if people PAID attention instead of click baiting into people emotions. To get the MEID MS has to pay licensing to Qualcomm to get them, and to turn on CDMA. Also Verizon moved away from CDMA authenticating when they moved to selling LTE devices. It's not about whitelist anymore.

It won't work because MS didn't make it work. Block C ensures Verizon has to accept the device if MS made it work.

Yes if you want the device you will have to switch carriers. Verizon has nothing to do with it not working on their network.

I forgot the mention even the FCC testing shows that MS didn't do what was needed to work on Verizon or any CDMA carrier for that matter.

Here is how they moved from CDMA authenticating to GSM authenticating like GSM carriers do. If you have a LTE device it authenticates like GSM. This is when they had trouble with it.

Now here are block C open access rules.

Blackberry also did the same thing and didn't activate or pay for the licenses for their latest effort. It is a GSM only device too.  http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/21/blackberry-priv-specs-official/

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Just read the first link, from 2011, and the bottom line is "failing to authenticate is an issue for Verizon to resolve on its end"

Your second link tells me that again, it's Verizon,  If I have a phone that is unlocked and is designed to work on any of their bands, but does't, and however does work with other service providers, then again it is VZW.  Maybe they are anticipating so many problems with authentication on their end that they are not planning to put the 950 and 950XL into their database.

Again you are grabbing at straws. If you follow your articles sources it is simply based on that Verizon needs the IDs to activate devices which is a CDMA authenticating scheme. That article even states that Verizon MOVED AWAY from that scheme.

Also the second link shows block C rules which stops Verizon not accepting devices without just cause and they would have to show burden of proof. Simply blocking them is not burden of proof.  MS did not do what it took to support spectrum and they advertise they don't support Verizon with that device. How is Verizon going to block something the manufacturer didn't add support for let alone willing to violate block C which could cause them to lose their billions of dollars investments into their LTE network?

Easy to paint Verizon as the bad guy, but without Microsoft adding support and passing FCC requirements then Verizon has NOTHING  to do with it.
