it all comes down to your choice, things to consider...

I love my 928, best phone i ever had, no issues at all.  feels great in my hand, works great etc, now comparing that to the 1020 the lens jumps out at me, going to be awkward, always sticking out, getting in the way, etc.

But, its a great camera, and the apps from nokia are killer.  to me right now, i would stick with a lumia, and think if the lens is going to get in the way or not.

then there are the carriers, ATT will let you upgrade yearly, Verizon, well they are always the last one to the picnic.  its a shame too, they require soo much add on stuff, but the have the best network, but they are changing from cdma, so i am sure we will be paying for that by our monthly bills and by their slow response to introduce new phones and services.

customer service i cannot comment on ATT, but verizon goes through its stages.  I had people rude enough that i tried to switch carriers, but they always called me back and made good.  from that to being treated like i am in a spa.  i cannot however take their people in the stores.  they are like barnacles on a ship with me being the ship.  once you walk in a few of them try to attach themselves to you.  i try never to go to their stores now, i would rather order online and return it if its not what i want.  So much easier than scraping the barnacles off you!

Don't go with VZ for any Lumia model... During my 30 days with the  VZ 928 I had to do 2 factory resets(equivalent wiping hard drive along with  a bottomless pit of soft resets equivalent of taking out battery on android, in case you don't know) .Twice I went to VZ stores with windows issues(after wasting time on unfruitful  calls to tech support).  I may as well have been speaking Chinese when I said word windows to VZ techs .....  VZ's "flagship"  928 is riddled with buggy app issues, battery life issues, audio, text ones as many windows forums posts  will confirm My backup failed too. VZ's 928 was  all marketing, just  adding subscribers. (worked for windows too  they just passed blackberry).

I'm not denying you had a bad experience with the Lumia 928 - mine has been different.

The apps run the gamut - some are better than the Android version, others are worse or don't exist.  Most of the apps we've installed have done the job and perform just fine.

Battery life has been excellent - a full day and usually into the next day with a recharge every 1-2 days.  No complaints on the battery life here.

The only texting complaints were due to no group messaging, but it's added back with the Amber update, so that's a non-issue.  It works just fine.

Although we've had the phone not quite a month, the audio on phone calls has been outstanding.  None of the drop outs or static problems others have had.

In summary, our Lumia 928 is a solid performing phone.  Photos and video are top quality, email works without a hitch, texting, calls - all work just fine.  The browser is fast, and responsive, and we have no complaints.

Each users experiences will be different, and to the OP who was asking about the 928, I think it's only fair to respond with positive to counteract the negative.  Me?  I like the Lumia 928!

Any visit to windows mobile forums will show battery life, audio, text, update issues to be  widespread on the 928. VZ spent months promoting its flagship 928 windows phone it introduced in mid May. By mid August "flagship"  was selling for free on VZ. Anyone who tells you they got 17 or 27 hrs of continuous use VZ 928 should be writing science fiction; no way, never happened unless they're just taking photos, making calls, emailing; no way with apps. no way and Nokia is well aware of the issue. Those apps and that platform are super buggy. I got lost twice(once for 30 miles) waiting for Maquest's "voice activated, turn by turn nav app which adjusts to drivers route). That app does none of those. 2 emails to mapquest customer support regarding this issue went unanswered. Gamut you say? The reviews on the windows store are pure  fiction. Its a wonderful nice looking  phone, very quick, user friendly, customizable platform when it works (as with most Windows products). Winodws CEO is now out; that's a positive. 928 was all marketing; added a bunch of 2 yr agreements for VZ

VZ Technical support just tries to pitch you androids/Iphones  to deal with these issues after they get tired of telling people to wipe out their phones hard drive on the 928

PS Nokia put a high performance speaker in the 928 but there are  no settings to adjust bass?????Also why so many get that lovely  blown speaker sound when songs with loud bass come on

One thing in favor of the Lumia 928 on Verizon is that it's FREE on a 2-year contract. Having said that, the first thing to consider when shopping for a phone is the carrier's network coverage where you live, work, and play. If you don't have good coverage no phone in the world can make up for the lousy experience you're going to have with it.

Then you have to be honest with yourself about how you will be using your mobile. How big a priority are pictures? Is the 928's excellent camera enough for you? It's more than enough for me! Keep in mind that with the Lumia 1020 it takes two pictures for each shutter snap. a 5mp picture for sharing, and a 38mp picture for cropping and/or downloading to a computer. It's a very versatile setup, but for quick snaps you want to share online you'll be using the 5mp version. I don't do enough with pictures taken on my phone to need the full capabilities of the Lumia 1020, and Verizon's 4G LTE coverage is superior to AT&T's in my area of northern New Jersey.

Nothings free. VZ  "flagship"  928 windows phone was $100 back in May. AMZN where I got my 928  offered to extend my return period to 90 days. Like I said nothings free. I'd go with a carrier like AT&T or one with an established relationship with Nokia which is not VZ. BUt I have a feeling you might run into same issues as with VZ, maybe not Nokia hardware is, as usual, top notch, few Nokia apps are great. WP8 apps and platform, buggie. My skydrive photo app stopped auto or manual uploading photos on August; checked memory plenty left. Backup failed lost some cool photos.

If you are already using a windows PC only plan on using your 928 with those windows apps, photos, emailing I think this phone will work great for you VZ or not. Otherwise RUN. PS. Nokia is well aware of the audio and battery life issues with the 928

wow, i am guessing someone had a bad phone, i compared the nokia pictures apps to my sons iphone 5, nokia hands down, battery life... well i work off my phone, if i miss charging it at night i dont worry, it will last almost two days of rather heavy usage.  mind you i realize others dont report the same battery life, but it all comes down to the individual phone

bugs?  few, as a microsoft mobile developer i know what bugs are, phone 8 is a rather stable platform, comparing this to others, windows wins.  the dev environment is stellar with windows.

do you have any lines to support your claims nokia is aware of issues?  i know of none.

I've noticed a lot of times these sort of issues end up being user error a lot of times anyway.

If you're interested why don't you pop in some nokia or windows discussions groups and judge for yourself from all the battery life, update, storage, audio , app issues posts from  the  "someone had a bad phone" crowd; lot of those someones out there. I didn't say anything bad bout the Nokia hardware which, as usual is top notch as are the few Nokia apps , on the other hand, theres a reason Mac brand went from a 3% marketshare to almost 14% today(and climbing) today. That 928 takes awesome low light photos, if I used mine  for emails calls some photos I was fine. To describe windows platform and its apps as buggie is generous; an MS tradition

PS' VZ's long awaited flagship 928 debuted in Mid May. "Flagship" is now selling for free. One VZ supervisor in California told me "You get what you pay for". Check for yourself what Nokia knows or doesn't know. Nokia phones still take calls where other brands drop signalNokia is not problem.

Excellent point . Should change it . VZ needs to spend more cash getting phones people want AT&T built its network on exclusives they spend big $$$ to get em too  iPhone, HTC one, Droid X , Lumia 1020 etc  Not for the I phone exclusive AT&T enjoyed for yrs that carrier would just be an also ran.  Droid X is same phone as VZ's droids, just better.

The Droid X is a three year old phone that was exclusive to Verizon.
