The current rumors seem to back your date.

They also predict a gimped version with a 5" screen and no micro-sd support... typical Verizon bumbling. They truly seem to fear a Windows phone that can compete head to head with their Android devices. Perhaps the margin on the Windows phone is not as good as the Androids?

Or maybe they really are just incompetent.

Well they have released the specs on the AT&T version of the 1520, we seriously have to get these providers out of the device business and have them focus on providing a solid network, and they are a major disappointment too.

While AT&T did keep the excellent 6" screen, they dropped the storage down to 16GB with no SD card slot and an obsolete wireless charging standard. I just do not get it, what is with the US carriers that they cannot take an excellent hardware design and just release it, or get out of the way and let me buy it straight from the manufacturer, instead of dumbing it down until nobody wants it anymore?

Well, since AT&T has blown it,  guess I will cancel my plan to migrate to their service for now. It is likely that Verizon will once again get my money for the 929, not because I am eager to own it but because it is the closest thing I can get right now to what I am looking for and my current device is dying, but I will continue to search for ways to exploit their system to cost them more than they make from me as they simply have me beyond annoyed with their ridiculous sales/support policies.

The 929 is looking better despite the smaller screen then, it has 32GB, wireless charging and BT 4.0...

Yes, but the screen difference is more than just the size.

The 1520 uses the Nokia ClearBlack IPS LCD as opposed to the AMOLED of the 929.

But I agree that the 32GB and QI charging are going to convince me to get the phone as I have to get something and it is the best of a collection of weak choices. Unless of course Verizon stalls to long and I have no choice but to get a Note III or Mega, even though Android is not my favorite OS, as I really need a replacement ASAP.

According to Nokia's comparison tool, the 1520 should have everything we need, except for LTE band 13.  Hopefully we will hear good things from those adventurous few who manage to track down a handset (and VZW-compatible nano-SIM, if required) and the inclination to give it a shot.

I find this thread very interesting.  This large "phablet" might be okay for me.  While I've been wishing that they'd come out with a phone with a slideout keyboard, this might work for my large hands.

But this begs a question:  Why does AT&T get all the good Windows phones while Verizon pretty much ignores them?  Does the Verizon management have stock in AT&T?

AT&T likes to go for exclusivity. They'll throw money into high profile devices instead of putting it into their network.

I remember this article I believe 4 months go. T-Mobile and Verizon individually spent more on their network than Sprint and AT&T combined. T-Mobile has foregone the basic subsidization model do to the amount of money they are spending to improve their network. They have no real big exclusive devices and they more than likely not.

From what I have heard, Verizon execs are upset with Microsoft over the whole Kin fiasco and have apparently decided to undermine the Windows Phone on their network... or once again, they might just be incompetent.

I actually got to play with a 1520 for a bit yesterday, I want this phone bad... bad enough that I am willing to go through the hassle of moving my 5 phones, 1 mifi and a home connect to AT&T if my 30 day test of their network pans out.

I will have to move all the devices slowly over the next year... but every quarter will see less of my money going to Verizon, which is not something I will be disappointed about.
