Integrated Messaging App for Windows

Does anyone in the community know if Verizon is working on bringing an integrated messaging app to Windows Phone, or Windows 8?  I think the service is wonderful, and have been waiting years to have a product like this.  So many times I want to send a URL from my computer to a friend's phone.

I don't know about Integrated Messaging being available on Windows 8... but from your computer (or even any phone) you can use these to send an email and it will arrive as a text message on the recipient's phone.

Thanks for the info, but it isn't really what I want.  I want to be able to track my messages (in and out) from any device at any time.  So if I reply on the website I can see my reply on my phone or tablet.  This functionality is available on iPhone and Android.  I would like the same on Windows.

I know what you're talking about. I have not seen this on the MS systems yet, but would be nice to use on the desktop, tablet, phone... I had an iPhone and it worked nice, but I think that will come from MS, not Verizon. Have you asked MS yet?

I've searched through the WP feature request site and couldn't find much.  It would be great if MS integrated it into the main messenger app on the phone.  I figured the chance of getting this done through an app from Verizon would be easier than waiting on MS to push out a change.  Anyhow, on iPhone and Android it's an app from Verizon.  So, it shouldn't be too hard to port the Android app over to WP.

Microsoft is moving it messaging into Skype so I'd assume that there will be some synch'ing between the phone and desktop in time.

Verizon offers an Integrated Messaging feature for text messaging, which is free.

(free on my contact at least... and I assume all)

It is a web app that allows you to get your phone's text messages through your browser, and send as if it is from your phone. I use it on various machines running XP, Vista, 7 and 8, with IE 8 through 11 preview.

It "supports" Windows Phone because it is phone agnostic.  It is basically a web interface to Verizon's internal text messaging system.

A few caveats:

  • For messages that you send, the two systems are independent. Messages that you send only appear in the thread on the system from which you sent them. What I mean is that if you send a text from the browser, it will NOT appear in the thread on your phone, and vice versa. All received messages do appear on both systems though.
  • Cleanup must be done independently on each device. This is to say that if you delete a thread on the phone it will still exist in the browser interface, and vice versa.
  • I don't get many multi-media text messages, but I do know that the browser version does support embedded images. I can't attest to whether it support all (or any) embedded animations or videos though

One advantage to the browser interface is that it allows the deletion of individual messages, which of course Window Phone 8 currently does not support. If you sign up for Integrated Message then you will at least be able to retain select text messages somewhere.

  • NOTE: you can not "protect" select text messages and then delete the thread, as you can in some systems. You have to manually select each of the messages that you want to delete.

Then it wouldn't be difficult for Verizon to put the web interface into an app and offer push notifications.

I'd like to see a unified inbox available natively in WP8. As a former BlackBerry user (10+ years) I found that unified inbox to be a very productivity-adding feature. And you could exclude email accounts if you wanted. With the new BB10 operating system they went a step farther and put notifications and messaging in the unified inbox along with email. Unfortunately BB10 has some other failings and hence my shiny new Lumia 928.
