HTC Windows phone can't see Verizon email account

My HTC Windows Phone has been a dream getting my Comcast emails wherever I
am.  I am trying to integrate my new Verizon account in the same way, but my
phone says the Verizon server doesn't support Microsoft Exhange ActiveSync -
error#85030022.

is there a work-around or will this be supported soon?  This would be a huge
problem with my switch from Comcast to Verizon.

What solved it for me was the selection of 'other account' vs 'Outlook'.  Seems that removed the need for activesync on the server.

Thanks to all for your help.

I would guess you'd need to configure the new Verizon account as either IMAP or POP3, not as an Exchange ActiveSync account. Or you could create an Outlook.com or Gmail account, which either can be configured as ActiveSync. Plus, you can keep the Outlook.com or Gmail account forever and not be tied to your ISP.

If you do go with Outlook.com, here are step-by-step instructions:

This is my HTC Cell phone that can't connect, and it provides that error about ActiveSync.  I'm not sure how much flexibility I have when I configure my cell phone for this email connection.
