Overnight Verizon Outage - Austin, TX

I work overnight (11pm-7am), as a valet for a hotel here in downtown Austin, TX. There is usually nothing to do so my phone gets me through the shift. Lately there have been signal outages that have happened about 3 or 4 times in the past month. Outages range from 10 minutes to 3 hours.

Can someone tell me what this is? I assume its maintainence, but it can be very frustrating to me when my signal dies off for no reason at all. In the event of an emergency, it would be very unfortunate to have a signal outage.

Sounds like maintenance/upgrades and upgrades on the switch. This usually happens during the lowest usage hours of the day. If you do have to call 911, the phone should find any available CDMA singal (Sprint, etc.) and complete the call, even if the VZW network is down for maintenance.
