I am not personally for the new tiered data pricing, but I have to correct your approach because it is written in an overly confusing manner. The data pricing is not confusing and was called out quite specifically and easy to understand:

Data as an additional feature (I don't know every level for this):

$29.99/Unlimited

$30/2GB ($30/4GB was a promotion)

$50/5GB ($50/4GB with additional hotspot)

Share Everything:

Unlimited Talk and Text with:

1GB = $50

2GB = $60

4GB = $70

6GB = $80

The cost increased by $10 for an additional 2GB of data for several levels and then has a higher cost for much larger amounts, I believe. I don't care to research it for this post. My point is that there is no basis for confusion and a simple look at the pricing structure can not lead someone into confusion because it is all fairly straightfoward. More than this, comments on articles through CNET and Yahoo have shown people actually saving money without really losing anything that they had used. How many people with unlimited data actually use it? I know that I use 20-40GB/month, but that is not typical at all.

In most of the comments that I have seen, the people saving money moving to the FSE plans are the ones that have 2000 minute or more plans.

Yeah, that is largely what I have seen as well, but there are those with 1400 minute plans with unlimited texting and several data packages, who are saving considerably as well. My point is only that people are obviously finding benefits with this and, while the model is established to help drive profits for the business, it genuinely is benefiting some portion of the customer base.

also, 3 phones could theorhetically share that one gig for $50. previously, 3 smartphones would have had to pay a minimum or $90 ($30 per line) per month just to activate them and access data. the new plans don't work well for many users, but they work well for many others.

You're forgetting each smartphone is also paying a $40 access fee.

Ok you're not juts paying $50 for that 1 GB of data. You're getting talk and text with that. And yes I know that is kind of BS since they really should consider that part of the $40 device fee. After all a tablet is only $10. Wonder why? Oh it can't make phone calls or text. So you'd think they extra $30 is going towards that. But that's not how they price it.

Anyways if you look at it this way, on the old plans 4 lines with unlimited minutes and texting would have been $160. The 4 device fees on Share Everything( which has unlimited texting and minutes ) is $160. Same price. Now for data four 2 GB data plans would have been $120. 8 GB shared is $90. In fact for $120 you could share 14 GB or 3.5 GB each. Now I know people are going to say "I don't need unlimited minutes". Yes I'm in the same boat. But the fact is apples to apples the new plans are cheaper.

I think if Verizon offer a 1000 minute plan for $20 a month cheaper I think you'd hear a lot less complaining and you'd probably get more people jump on Share Everything which I assume is what Verizon wants. right now Share Everything is more for us. By at least $10 a month. I say "at least" because I'm not sure how the taxes are figured out in this since no one here has been able to tell me. But I tried to estimate them and they would be $8 more per month. Now until someone from Verizon or someone who has had their bill come in can tell me otherwise I will assume I figured it out correctly. So $18 more per month is no go for me. Offer me 1000 minute for $20 less. Sure I'd switch.

You believe wrong. The cost goes up by $10 per 2 GB all the way up to 20 GB.

Funny thing is, anyone who wants to keep Unlimited data, can do so, just like i will! 😄

While I don't blame you eventually you'll lose it. You can't upgrade a phone or renew a contract and keep unlimited data. Once you are out of contract Verizon can get rid of your unlimited at any time. They choose not to right now. But all they have to say is if you're not under contract you can't keep unlimited. Within 2 years everyone will be off of unlimited.

Offer me a 450 minute plan (or even 300) for $30 less and I'd switch too.

Or cut those data plans down by $30.

For me as an individual user with one smartphone & one 3G netbook, the bottom line here is:

these plans are $30/month TOO HIGH.

Wow, man. That totally could have been provided without the assault. Lot to learn about tact.
