I am a Verizon customer for 15 years with a family plan and have for many years the unlimited data plan , uses less than 1gb per month and paid for unlimited plan just to keep it for possible future needs. Now as I need to upgrade my phone and I'm advised  ill have to give it up.. Verizon is unfair for not compensating me in no way as a long term customer who will now lose a valuable plan I paid and kept for many years ( despite having cheaper plans available).  No loyalty or customer service, was on phone for 45 minutes, the manager wouldn't come to the phone, because they knew I'm right...

If you want to keep your unlimited plan, go to a Verizon Corporate store (not a re-seller) and pay full price for your new device; not the discounted price. That is the rule and has been in effect for at least two years. If you do this, be CERTAIN before consummating the transaction that they are NOT changing your plan. Once it is changed, there is no way to change it back, NONE.

All carriers change their plans from time to time. Verizon isn't any different.

Firstly this has been policy since June 2012. Also you can keep you unlimited data if you pay full price for the device. What exactly do they need to compensate you for? You are not under contract you are month to month. They can change features on you any time they like. READ your customer service agreement. Besides eventually they will get rid of unlimited data altogether. If you had cheaper option elsewhere for the same or better service that is ON YOU. You are basically saying you WILLINGLY paid more for the same service on your ASSUMPTION that eventually you'd get some sort of special treatment? I've been going to McDonald's for 40 years where is my free stuff? After 4 decades and thousands if not tens of thousands of $$$ you'd think I'd get free big macs or something.

CAN VERIZON WIRELESS CHANGE THIS AGREEMENT OR MY SERVICE?

We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change

You're not right, and the reason they won't come to the phone is because it will simply end in an argument. They would rather not have you as a customer at all, than for you to have unlimited data.
