I have an iphone 4s and have the unlimited data plan. I've heard rumors before the new plans came out that we would be able to pay full price for our phones, therefore not signing a new contract, and keep our unlimited data. Is this true?

Yes, it is true, for now. There is no guarantee that at some stage this won't go away, once you are month to month there is obviously no contract binding either you or Verizon Wireless. But this works for now, and hopefully for some time!

Yes, paying full price just means that you are not entering a new contract, so your existing conditions continue (as said above, for as long as they do!) You can move from unlimited 3G to unlimited 4G this way.

Unlimited is unlimited, it does not matter if it is 3G or 4G... For now.
