There is no such thing as Verizon wireless customer support. I've been looking for years. The only time you ever get to actually talk to a person is when you want to buy a phone at a shop. Otherwise your talking to the community. They can't even seem to get their internet page together. I keep getting blank screens.

You can search FAQ's, if you think that can help, but if you have a question that isn't listed in the faq's forget it.

I had a question: Can the number from  basic phone account be kept or transferred to a smart phone account. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, unless you want to keep paying for the separate basic phone account to retain the number. Otherwise your pretty much hosed.

Imagine collecting all those monthly charges and not being able to provide some kind of actual support with a human response.

I'm not going to pay 45/month for another account just so I can use a smartphone. I've got a home service account that I pay over 100/month for, and  I've got my old basic phone for 15/month. You'd think that they could at least link a wireless phone to the home account. I'm paying way too much even for the home account. Verizon is a heartless computer that wants to suck as much money out of you as they can. Sure they provide good service, but it's not electricity or plumbing. How does the government let them get away with treating us like that? What is Verizon's expense? All they have is a big computer that runs everything. They have service technicians that install cable in the ground, but now it's all there already, and I think they don't require much maintenance. They have cell towers but they're all installed too. So what expense do they have that requires charging so much for service? There doesn't seem to be any regulating. All the major phone companies are monopolizing our money. They can charge whatever they want. I pay more for my home phone and internet than I do for electricity, and I'm sure most other people do.

I'm not sure exactly what you are wanting to do -  activate a smartphone in place of a basic phone on a line of service?  Depending on your current plan, it will cost more to have a smartphone on the line.  You'll need a data plan for it.

You mentioned a "home service" account - do you mean broadband data - cable or satellite?  That's different than wireless phone/internet service.  If your $15 basic phone is bundled with your home internet service, you can put a smartphone on the line, keep the same number, but the cost will go up because you need to add a data plan.  If you intend to use your home internet via wifi on the smartphone, then a minimal data package will likely be sufficient (1GB).

pop888,

Oh no! We certainly are saddened to hear that you feel this way about us. We are always here to help you with anything that you need. Let’s turn everything around for you, ASAP! I’m glad that you have reached out to us here, because help is our middle name. From what I’m understanding you want to activate a smartphone on a particular line on your account that is currently a basic phone line. We always allow our customers to activate any type of phone on their line & keep the same phone number. With a smartphone, it does require a data plan. I’m sending you a Private Message so that I can gather more information. Please respond back to me in the Private Message.

I have a dsl account with phone (not wireless) (no cable). I also have a separate wireless prepaid account. I want to know if I can get a wireless phone on my home account. I would especially like to keep the phone number from my wireless account if I could do that. The phone that I would like to add would be a smartphone.

I sent a copy of the above to Alicia who I also got an email from. I wasn't sure if I should reply to you or her. ( jive-1661043538-3jvk2-2-t4fg@verizonwireless.hosted.jivesoftware.com )

I also tried to acknowledge the response on the discussion board, but there was not a link on the page to do so. It suggested the following: please click the Correct Answer button under my response

You can switch your prepaid line to postpaid and get a smartphone while keeping your prepaid number, but it won't be added to your home service account. You would create a Verizon Wireless account for the smartphone, and choose from the current postpaid plans. As already mentioned, the service for a smartphone is more expensive than that for a basic phone, but if you plan on using your home wifi service to connect your smartphone to, you can save money with a smaller data allowance.

There isn't any email for customer support anymore. You can call, chat, or go to a store for assistance.
