I just wanted to jump in here to offer some assistance. As of 2/1/15 the iPhone 4s is unlocked, but may require a program code to use with another carrier (typically 000000 or 123456).
Important: Carriers typically use different frequencies and air interface technologies to provide wireless network access. Accordingly, a device that works on 1 carrier's network may not be technologically compatible with another carrier's network.
With the 4s, you may get "SIM card required" error.
You would need to Reset all Content and Settings so the 4s will accept the new activation policy.
Go to Settings> General> Reset> Erase all Contents & Settings or perfom a Restore Phone when the 4s is connected to iTunes http://bit.ly/1FovUKl.
I hope this information was helpful.

It would have to be unlocked to be used over there. Some people know how to unlock it, you could even call verizon and have them unlock it (they will not do it if your behind in your payments.) I would make sure it was unlocked before you sell it. You could call a tmobile store and see if they can unlock it.

I Don't believe an iPhone 4s from Verizon (a CDMA network) will work on a GSM network, like T-Mobile.
DOes es it have a sim tray?

Unfortunately iPhone 4s is not able to use domestic GSM carriers (AT&T, Tmobile). However, it can be unlocked for international GSM sim card but not domestic due to 3G devices (Verizon can fully control the use of these devices)

Back to what I said:
"If you put it on the trade in webiste (and it is in good conditon) you could get $41 for it (just so you know). www.trade-in.vzw.com."
That way you will just be done and have your money.
