Would changing my current plan lose the 6GB bonus data?

I have L 8GB plan with 6GB bonus data. I am thinking to drop my plan from L 8GB to S 2GB but not sure If I will be able to keep the 6GB bonus data or not. Some of my friends clam that I will not lose my bonus data if I drop my plan from L to S. Others say that I have to maintain my plan and not drop it lower than L plan in order to keep the bonus data. I am totally confused and don't know what to do.
