Since you are not likely to have any definite proof, it will be just one side claiming the other caused the cracked screen. Not a good position to be in. There is, unfortunately, dishonest people that do package up a broken screen and then claim it was not broken when it was sent, which also unfortunately impacts the honest people.

Yeah ... indeed. & i had a gut feelin' 'bout sending it in without taking a
picture. i'd thought, since we hadn't encountered an issue before, there
ought not be a problem.

I take pictures of the device (usually turned on as to reveal any cracks) and the IMEI. I usually take video of boxing the phone up and then I take pictures of the box and return label. I also make sure to get a receipt of it being accepted by the carrier. This way, VZW can't claim anything as I have my pictures to prove that I sent back a device that was undamaged. I make all users on my account keep cases on their devices and if I se any hint of damage they are responsible for the deductible.
