Why is it that Verizon Wireless decides to sync service and device dates and screw the customer?

I noticed that my device upgrade date (without having to pay full price) was moved out by 4 months. My understanding is that the devices are subsidized and this means that I'll be paying in for 4 more months to cover this phone. I was looking forward to upgrading a phone in August, now I'm looking at finding another service in January.

There's just no early upgrades, you upgrade when your actual contract is up now.
