Over the last year, I have had pretty poor service in the Hillsboro/Beaverton Oregon area, primarily indoors. I have great service outside, but the moment I go inside most restaurants/stores, service barely works. I often have to turn off LTE. Several of my friends have Verizon also (iPhones and Android), and have the same service issues as me. Also, I have a single bar of service in my home (97006 area code). I had the iPhone 6 Plus, and now the iPhone 6s Plus.

Sounds like you are in a marginal area. Not much to do consider a Verizon extender at home, and hope Verizon puts up more LTE towers in the area.
