No one is calling you an idiot. The fact is there was a misunderstanding. You were told no down payment, which means you didn't have to pay toward the price of the tablet, but you DO have to pay tax at the point of purchase. The rep certainly could have been clearer about this, but that ship has sailed. Did you ask at the store what the $88 dollars was for? Were you told it was a "down payment?" The definition of down payment is certainly accurate, but what rcschnoor is saying is that unless the $88 was applied directly to the cost of the device, and not to sales taxes and other fees, it is NOT a down payment. Your frustration is understandable, but you were offered compensation for your gas, when w hat happened was a misunderstanding and not a lie. Also, to say that for a customer service rep there is no gray area, that's a tall order. Nobody is completely flawless, and mistakes will be made. They are only human, too.

From a more recent post "Either way, I was told that I wouldn't have any money come out of my pocket at the store."

Well, that turned out to be an incorrect translation. Simple misunderstanding. Good luck.Smiley Happy

You're not making sense to me.  All of these statements imply that I do not have to hand my money to the cashier.  Neither of them represent a difference in situation nor outcome.  I don't get your argument of where I changed my story.

Were you told "no money down" or "no money out of pocket at the store?" "No money down" indicates no down payment, not necessarily no money will need to be paid at pickup. "No money out of pocket" indicates you pay nothing at pickup at all. You stated both.

Thank you for being understanding instead of rude.  I appreciate that.  What i have enlarged in your reply is the result of "lack of training."  Grey area's in customer service can cause a lot of problems for businesses.  Being that Verizon has a training issue, the customer shouldn't have to bite the bullet because of their mistakes.  I told the supervisor REP over the phone that there is no way they could repay me for wasted time.

Fact of the matter:  If this is unresolved, they WILL lose a long term, loyal customer.

Down Payment is "An initial payment made when something is bought on credit."

"no money down" or "no money out of pocket at the store?"

This statement has the same result.  I GIVE NO MONEY TO THE CASHIER.

Down Payment = no money out of pocket

It's the same thing.

I am trying to be polite and helpful, but to repeatedly post definitions of well known words is a little insulting. What I am saying is that while "no money out of pocket" means no down payment, "no down payment" does not necessarily exclude paying taxes at point of purchase. For example, a square is most definitely a rectangle, a rectangle is not necessarily a square. But to quibble over this further is silly. If you feel you were purposely misled, switching carriers is probably best. Have a good day! 🙂

You can't come up with your own definitions.  No down payment means, no payment made at the beginning of the transaction, which equals nothing out of pocket.  It's as simple as that.

"No down payment does not necessarily exclude paying taxes at point of purchase."

What part of the definition of "down payment" has a disclaimer and why wasn't I told this?
