Verizon can't do anything else?? for those that were hacked!!

Last week I received a email from what I thought was my "my verizon online" saying I got 20% off. I didn't think anything of it and I proceeded to log on and enter my account password and that was that. I really didnt think anything of it. Days later my phone was working fine all day long until I try to make a phone call and my service is suspended. I call customer service she proceeds to tell me she cant help me...I need to speak to the fraud department. I was on hold for way over a hour and chatting with a different rep online at the same time. Finally I had a family member come over so I used their phone, hung up mine and proceeded to call the fraud dept. and what do ya know I get through immediately! She proceeded to tell me my account got hacked and they were making numerous international calls on my account. They fixed everything. Restored my service but my frustration is that I live in GA were there is a current State of Emergency due to the ice storm and that was my only phone. For them to just suspend my service without so much as a warning is unacceptable!! What if this happened 2 weeks ago when I was stuck in traffic for 9 hours because of the Atlanta storm!! Then I had to go ahead and re-enroll in online billing ect. Just extra stuff I did not expect to have to deal with today! I read numerous blogs about this occurring to several others as well and it is just a shame that Verizon does not even have the respect for their customers to send out e-mails or anything just alerting customers that this type of thing happens (hacking emails and text messages). I'm very uneasy about even continuing service with Verizon. I am considering cancelling my service. Such a shame!! After all of that,.......venting to customer service after it was all said and done all I got was a "I'm sorry". I don't expect Verizon to roll out a red carpet and give me free service for a year but some type of compensation would be commendable on their behalf.

First of all, Verizon doesn't always know when there is something like this happening (mostly because they happen frequently), and they also cannot babysit every account...not to mention the fact that Verizon has no idea what you got in an email.

Second, whenever you get an email like that, if it is for a "bill discount" or it's a request to update credit card info, hover your cursor over the email address or the link the the fake Verizon site. If it doesn't have the words "Verizon Wireless" in the address, do NOT click it. I have gotten these too, and Verizon will never request payment or account information such as account number, passwords, etc. When in doubt, call.
