Upgrade 11 days early??

Yesterday my husband called our local verizon wireless store (Springfield,Pa) and explained we were due for our upgrade 6/11/13 and we wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade now, we wanted to know before we made the 30 min trip to the store. The man he spoke to told us yes we could do that.

I got home from work, arrange for my roommate who is also on the plan to come with us (he works nights and altered his schedule) so he could upgrade as well. We traveled to the store.. wait 30 mins there... only to be told sorry nothing they could do???? Its not a month.. Its not even two weeks.. really not helpful.. and I can't help but think of switching now because I was inconvienced 90 mins (between the two 30 mins drives there and waiting 30 mins at the store) after we had called and got the okay?

Anyone else had problems like this?

No never happened to me. But then again I pay full price and have no contract.

However I would assume (and you know what that means) that when information is given to you it would be correct.

alas at verizon they don't want early upgrades any longer. Inconvenience to you, well what can I say.

You could switch providers but wait until you are actually off contract or you get that nasty ETF

Then you will have to find another provider that actually can complete your calls, texts and data as Verizon has done.

You then pay for your new phones at full cost. I believe Sprint & T-Mobile are doing away with subsidize phones. I could be wrong in my assumption but check with the provider. Then those nasty activation fees on your lines you moved to the other provider. It is a lot to ponder.

Just wait until you can get new phones since its only a few days to go.

Good Luck

Yeah I don't get it. People come on here all miffed and indignant because Mr. BigCorp won't bend the rules and give preferential treatment to Mrs. Jane Doe. I don't like Corporate Power in this country but consumers need to realize corporations exist to serve the interests of their shareholders, not their customers who pay the dividends and the 50% quarterly profit margins that Verizon enjoys. They took AWAY early upgrades as it is because it was money left on the table to continue to offer them. So it doesn't surprise me that verizon won't upgrade so much as one hour before that contract clock ticks over anymore.

Thanks for your input!

I wasn't upset about waiting the additional days, and would have merrily accepted the denial on the phone..

except they lied on the phone. And therefore wasted my time in travel and waiting. I don't expect to be treated differently, btw.

ALWAYS get a name! Especially dealing with the store. They will say anything to try and get a sale.

I never said you did. I was just telling you how it was with those contract upgrades.

My local store( which is retail Verizon store, not corporate ) will do upgrades 7 days early. At least they did last year. I can't believe you don't have any stores closer than 30 minutes. I live in a tiny town surrounded by other tiny towns for over 50 miles and my store is less than 5 minutes away.

Also you should have double checked right before you left that you can do that. For all you know you got a newbie employee on the phone that didn't know better or you got one of the dumb ones.

As far as switching carriers, unless you are willing to wait 4 months( and I find that hard to believe since you seem impatient to wait 11 days for an upgrade ) you'd have to pay an ETF. Assuming you all have smartphones currently the ETF would be $150 each.

I also find this ridiculous.  I am trying to upgrade to a more expensive plan two weeks early.  TWO weeks.  New customers get treated better than existing ones.  I must say though, customer service has been really nice who I talked to.  Their hands are just tied, because corporate sucks.
