Hello, I'm confused about the use of my cell phone on a cruise and the charges.
The cruise information states:
WMS offers an advanced roaming network onboard cruise ships allowing you to use your phone just like you do at home. Service for voice calls, texting (SMS) and data is available onboard while the ship is at sea. Rates for roaming on ships are determined by your home carrier. Please note that calls to 800, 888, 866, and 877 numbers are not toll free. You will be billed by your home carrier for your international roaming usage on your regular mobile phone bill.
My Verizon "trip planner" after I enter the name of my cruise ship says this:
You currently have the INCLUDE CANADA/MEXICO on your account.
Then below that it says:
Carnival Splendor
International Pay As You Go
- Pay only when you use your device.
Only pay for what you use on your international trip. Use Wi-Fi where available.
$2.99/minute
$0.50/message sent
$0.05/message received
$0.25/MMS message sent
$0.25/MMS message received
My question is....am I charged a pay per use fee? Or is it covered in my plan since I'm covered to Canada and Mexico and I'm taking a cruise to Mexico? I'm trying to determine if I should pay for the ships wifi service, all I really want is text messaging capabilities.

MAM.MEEMA, I would like to help clear up your concerns and it's exciting to hear you'll be taking a cruise to Mexico. Any usage while aboard the Carnival Splendor will incur it's own separate Pay As You Go charges as you outlined in your post. Any usage off the coast of Mexico where you are not able to receive a signal from nearby land will incur the per charge rate for any text, call or data usage. You can review the link below for any billing and charge questions while traveling internationally. I hope this information helps clear up the details. http://spr.ly/6589DdbHf

While you're docked you might be close enough to get a signal to roam on a local carrier. I doubt you get Canada/Mexico use on the ship when it's off shore

It is giving this info as when on the ship it will charge pay-as-you-go rates for voice and SMS, and there will not be any data available via the cell network.....
While in port it will revert to the TravelPass feature and would allow free use of your standard domestic plan as if you were still in the U.S.

Canada and Mexico is included in his plan so he wouldn't need travel pass.

Thanks for the correction!
I used the wrong term/word. Replace the "TravelPass" part with "Free CA/MX"....
