I think that it's time that Verizon bring back unlimited Data. I'm already paying a ridiculous amount a month anyway, might as well not have to stress about data. Or, be like T-Mobile and give everyone on your plan 10 GB a month.

Verizon is not going to bring back unlimited.

The highest profit for them is the cost of transmitting versus what we pay. If everyone had unlimited and there were no overage charges then they wouldn't make money.

There are 2 carriers that still offer unlimited.

Verizon bit off more than they can chew the first time they offered unlimited data. Now, if those business reports are  true about Verizon expanding their fiber optic network. Then maybe, and that's a big maybe. I'll see it happen in my lifetime.

I don't see unlimited data ever making a return.  It seems to be a thing of the past.  There are still a few carriers that offer a verison of unlimited data but all seem to have wording that allows them to back out of it at some point if and when they choose to do so.   Rather than unlimited data, I rather just pay or what I'm using.  And also, if unlimited data to all would bring about a slower network...then I'd be against it wholeheartedly.

In fact, just today, Verizon announced that they will add an arbitrary $20 additional fee to existing off-contract Unlimited data users.

Verizon is the new Comcast, hated by all.

Anyone who is on unlimited will be off contract. Don't forget that they'll now be able to get the DPP and keep unlimited. Don't make it out like it is a bad announcement.

Verizon can do whatever they like with the pricing structure. Anyone who is off contact can also be told no more unlimited. Getting the option to take a payment plan for a device is better than a full retail at time of purchase. You have to give a little.

I'm curious why you think unlimited data service holders should be grateful for the DPP opportunity? I mean yeah it's better than what we had in that I can amortize that $600 phone expense over 24 months instead of it all up front, but my net cost for the phone doesn't change. I'm still paying my built in fee for subsidized phones that were part of my original contract years ago (without the ability to purchase at subsidized rates), and now I have a 66% data plan price increase starting next month. I see where I'm giving, but I'm not really seeing what is in it for me?

@UnlimitedData17, I think the difference is that if you process the device upgrade plan and RE-COMMIT to a new contract, that will lock the current price you pay for Unlimited.

theb $20 increase is only for those of us that are off contract.  True, we were all told years ago that upgrading our phones would require us to lose unlimited with a new contract.  Apparently, this Best buy activation loophole gets around that.

I have a Galaxy S6 in my cart at Best Buy and am considering it.  Personally, I don't see why you even need the phone?  Just commit to the contract and use the phone you have.  If they allow you to have Unlimited, and they don't charge $20 more, you're better off (though you have an ETF, now).  You could e-may the new phone and carry on, while making a profit.

I really don't think that anyone should be allowed to have unlimited if all of us aren't allowed to have it.

I am not trying to start a fight but please note that a contract does not lock us into any pricing structure. It never has. It does not guarantee a price plan. If it did, when new plans were available we would not be able to switch while in contract. They're just not increasing the feature for those who may have been able to get on a contract with unlimited but they will be increased at the end.

If, after the increase, you will still pay less for what you use than you would on one of the new plans then more power to you. However, Verizon can change the feature pricing whenever they like. I have always said that if you want it you must pay for it. That's the case here. I am sure that for a lot of users this increase is going to be more expensive than one of the new plans for what they use. That's the point of it.

My thought...I wish they would just say no more unlimited for anyone and force you to switch.

You could have had unlimited data if you signed up when I did.  Anyone was eligible until they changed the rules.

Blame Verizon.

I had a deal, which they honored, until now.  I'll keep Unlimited at the price I pay. I will not pay their extortion, however.
