They could and try and increase capacity. The problem... Getting people on board leasing or selling land. Getting governmental approval within the county. It isn't done over night and it could take over a year to get any approval. That doesn't include build time and also laying the the pipes.

Also carriers don't own the whole backend. They rent them just as much as they charge you per GB. So if let's say a region is costing them 30M and the unlimited data crowd only brings in 15M data isn't going to be aroind for the long haul.

When they had unlimited data it was based on maximum speeds of 4Mb then they got the boom in usage which no one expecting included the same experts eho believe there's enough bandwidth which 2 years prior said there wasn't enough. People are using the argument in relation to Sprint buying out T-Mobile. Can't have it both ways here.

I will use Sprint here. I saw first hand with a tower near my home they were trying to put up. They advertised and actually promised it up in 120 days. Thanks to the neighborhood board they had to move is 5 miles farther thsn previously planned and it wasn't completed until 1 year and 3 months later.

I have unlimited data... If you want i can take an actual photo with my screen name showing it.

If it goes away it doesn't bother me. I am not tethered to my phones. I don't expect Verizon will remove it and do what it just did which is network optimization.

i honestly feel bad for people who didn't have the chance to sign up for unlimited data. At the time, if they could've, they should've. And, they shouldn't have fallen prey to VZW's "better" plans.

Personally, it depends on the situation. Not everyone needs or wants a smartphone. These people should've gotten a smartphone simply so they could lock in unlimited data? Don't think so. I had 2 lines with unlimited data, yet I never exceeded 1GB on either of the lines. I voluntarily gave up unlimited data an am paying less now because I have done so. No need to feel sorry for me. In the 2 years since I gave up unlimited data, I have saved close to $1000 on my bill and am using the exact same amount of data I was using when I had unlimited.

I had unlimited, and got rid of it. I couldn't care less whether I have it now or not because I'm one of the few that benefits from shared data.

That said, I like their new structure. You pay for the amount of data you use, and unlimited data will continue to be threatened. Verizon doesn't want anyone having it, and before long, it will be completely gone.

I just think that everyone that is saying  "I hope Verizon just cancels unlimited altogether" are the ones that are upset because they didn't get in on unlimited data. We call all of those people "haters" where I come from and "haters are ALWAYS gonna hate"!

Don't need it. Someone that NEEDS unlimited data obviously lives in an area without REAL internet. I have REAL internet so why would I be jealous of a person who's internet choices are so lacking they are forced to use mobile as their main internet connection? I'm in my 12th month in the More Everything plan. 7 days into my month I've used 6 MB. That's correct SIX MegaBytes. In fact in the previous 11 months I've used 6.16 GB TOTAL. The most I used in a month was 1.8 GB. So no I'm not jealous I don't have unlimited data. At least if I stream video on my phone over my cable internet connection I don't have to worry about a tower being congested and making the video stutter.

In fact the reason in waited getting a smartphone was you HAD to get a $30 data plan. I wasn't paying $30 extra just to have a smartphone for data I wasn't going to use when I had wi-fi. It didn't matter if it was unlimited, finally in Nov 2010 they had a $15 150 MB plan and that's when I finally got a smartphone. And honestly I still wasn't happy about paying $15 for data. I had that plan for 20 months until I upgraded to a 4G smartphone and had to give it up. But in those 20 months I saved $300. Actually more if you count taxes. So please quit assuming we're jealous of your lack of internet choices.

You people with unlimited data should be happy you still have it!!!

Half the people that still have it are looking for the next loophole to buy a new phone at a subsidized price!!!! get over it!!!

Exactly. Everyone thinks "Just put up more towers". You can do a Google search on story after story of a carrier getting turn down for a permit or having a tower build deployed over and over again by those in the Not In My Back Yard crowd. For every person in an area that wants more towers for better connections there is one person who doesn't want "ugly" towers messing up their view or some member tin foil hat club is afraid of the evil ray beams scrambling his brains and giving him cancer.

I disagree that people with unlimited data & still on 3G phones will be unaffected by this. Those 3G phones are getting long in the tooth & need to be replaced either by paying full price or buying a used 4G phone. Then they will be affected. I used to be one of those. I started my smartphone experience with a Droid X 3G phone with unlimited. Got a 4G Galaxy 3 just a few days before the deadline. Now using a One Max I bought outright. I have a good friend who is still using a 3G IPhone with unlimited. He is waiting on a new iPhone with 5" plus screen. I would give him my galaxy S3, but I know he has drunk too much apple Kool-aid to make the switch.

They are already going through the optimization.  If the tower is congested and you use over 5GB of data you will be throttled on 3G.  That hasn't changed at all.
