This is how Verizon treats its loyal customers

I'm absolutely sickened by Verizon. I've been with this company since I've had cellular service. I called today to inform them I'm moving to Australia. They don't offer reasonable service terms, but long distance plans only. I now have to pay to sever my contract. I've always paid my bill in full and on time-not only that, I was told that moving out of the country to an area that Verizon services is not reason for them to cancel your contract! You're expected to either continue paying, pay the cancellation fee, or find someone to take over your plan. Seriously? If I wanted to work sales for Verizon, I'd have applied.

This is shrewd business. When I return from overseas four years from now, I will never utilize Verizon as a carrier. Their behavior is disgusting. It's nice to know how they value their customers. I hope that everyone reading this post seriously reconsiders their contracts when they expire.

Thanks for nothing, Verizon.

No carrier in the states even Europe will let you out of the terms if you recently signed a contract. If you were near the end maybe, but nothing over a year left will be let go.

Anyone could simply exploit it and get a new device before moving and never have to pay for it.

I had over 40,000 points after being a loyal customer for over 15 years. However when I went to turn them in after changing carriers on my cell phones to AT&T due to much better customer service than Verizon, better reception than Verizon and more loyality to customers than Verizon, I was not able to turn them in even though I was still a customer due to having a MiFi with Verizon. The MiFi has a phone number attached to it, but they say that doesn't count as it has to be a cell phone. I am entitled to these points as I have earned them after paying a bill with them for numerous years, but since I changed carriers for my cell phones they don't want to honor them. I just wonder how many other people out there that they have taken advantage of like this. I am so flipping mad I would love to pursue a class action suit against them. I will never be a Verizon customer ever again.  AT&T has done more for me in less than a month compared to what Verizon has done for me in over 15 years. So if anyone out there that reads this might want to consider changing their carriers as Verizon simply do not care for their customers, but they do care about their customers money any way they can get it!!!! I agree thanks for nothing Verizon!!!

Some can say that about AT&T and switched to Verizon.

Everyone is going to have a mixed experience with all the carriers.

I didn't recently sign a contract-and only have a few months left. There's something to be said for a loyal customer over the years. I offered to provide proof of employment as well as my visa.

How much time is left on your contract? If it's over a year even in Europe they will not drop the contract FYI I came from Europe if you want to know where I got my info from.  My brother is currently in Germany, but planning to head to South Korea for a new job placement in a few months.

This is my honest opinion...  When contracts are involved there is no such thing as loyalty, and the use of the term loyalty is a marketing tool.

5 months.

When I mentioned loyalty I was referring to the fact that I'd been with Verizon for nearly 20 years. Should I return to the States, I'll use another provider. Perhaps I'll experience the same thing with a different provider-but this company has disgusted me.

Your upset with Verizon because they won't let you out of a contract - because you decided to move?

I really do have some idea how you must feel. I would also feel the same way but the carriers are all in it for the money...period. I have had over the years service with the four major carriers and yes Verizon is near the bottom of my list for not poor service but almost a complete lack of so-called loyal customer service. What Tidbits said is on target, no one will get more then lip service and a contract for being loyal or a long term customer. I have found over the years and being in the communications field myself that smaller providers will work with you more then the big four. Live, learn and don't look back. I wish you the best.
