Son moving to Canada

We have four lines on our plan. My son is moving to Canada for a 9 month job.  I'd like to keep him on the plan for when he gets back.  Should he buy a SIM card up there or a whole new phone/plan?  I think the travel pass may get to be expensive.  Not sure.

There are plans that include Canada, including Beyond Unlimited and Go Unlimited.  Perhaps you can look into changing the plan his line has to one that includes Canada.

In case your question wasn't answered, here's some suggestions.

All Unlimited plans after 2017 (And the New Verizon plans with 12gb or more) have Canada included, his data would have lower priority on a Canadian tower, but everything else will be fine.

There's Travelpass, but that would cost him $5 per day when using his phone and not what I would personally recommend.

If he wants to use a Canadian carrier, I suggest porting his number to Google Voice then porting it back once he's back in the US. Verizon's idea of suspending local service is charging you full price for it after 90 days. Doing this route, you'd want to add a feature to call to Canada on your account for $5 per month. If you existing plan doesn't already have Canada included.
